It would be more like a big facepalm, and Japanese rioting in the streets and boycotts, murders and terrorist attacks.

Not likely, a HD remake of those games would cost more than FF Versus XIII or FF XIII. A remake won't sell as much as the original, so out of a FF6-10 remake, possibly only the FF7 one may actually sell more than what FF13 has. What Square needs to do is increase quality of mainline FF titles, they still don't have trouble selling (apart from MMO's), the latest one (FF13) has met mixed reactions, they need to make a game that meets expectations of all fans instead of fragmenting the FF fan base with a love it or hate it game. They also need to get the games out quicker and improve production processes.
SE is in trouble because of the mind set of more cash into a game equals more money. Which is absurd and false. You can't create the same things with better flash and expect the same sales climb again and again. Sooner or later every design path that did work will peak and then need to go down. SE has blindly followed that path and Sony is the flag carrier. As long as SE follows Sony rather than what saved them. SE will continue to have difficulties. Sony is their DOOM. SE needs to create broad appealing RPG's and not just cater to the FF Fanbase.
Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

Nintendo would only do that if they can have big say over SE.
In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.
Let's be serious: FFXIII development was quite expensive and they didn't have enough sales/profit with the game. If Square Enix is currently alive it's because of the Nintendo DS with all the Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest titles.
SE owes its existence to Nintendo this generation.

Damn, the thread ended so quickly!
Besides, Nintendo already employs everyone from SE that matterd :P

FFX doesn't need to be remade. |
Course it doesnt need to be remade (like many other remakes) but i wouldnt mind if Square did.
Squaresoft was my 2nd favorite gamemakers after Nintendo, but something happened when it became square-enix I think it was that rivalry that made them both great, to be honest I liked squaresoft and enix better separated, and seriously if their sales haven't been great It's because most of their games have been mediocre at best and IMO Final Fantasy XIII was 2010 biggest dissapointment, and I'm a huge FF fan I have played and beat them all. (including mystic quest)

They are alive because they also made great games, selling well on different consoles. They were not dependent of Nintendo in any way.
This would be a good time for MS to come in and Purchase a Japanese Publisher and get competitive in the Market. This would be huge for them.
But, that wont happen.
