Forums - Microsoft - Kinect is the new Tickle Me Elmo

Kinect has already done every form of game that can ever be done on it successfully. Party, fitness, sports, dance. Where will the innovation come from?

Are you seriously dense?  There are all kinds of things you can do with voice, a microphone, object recognition, face recognition, seeing fingers, the cloud (web services).

 Here is just an example:

Since Kinect can see your fingers you could have a virtual Piano, or you could use your hands to use records like a DJ.  You can use your body and interact like an interactive movie.  There are all kinds of things that you could do with the playspace because kinect not only knows where you are, but what your playspace looks like.

If there is any limits, it's in your intellect and nothing else.

Sure. Kinect has fantastic technology. Not relevant to gaming or consoles any more beyond what we've seen.

For gaming it is revolutionary, it is the start of the Holodeck type of technology in the newer Star Treks, it's the first part down that path.

Where's the progression, and has MS got a business plan with that on? I don't think so.

You really are stupid if you don't think Microsoft does not have a business plan with Kinect.   This is their ipad technology and it's going to be in everything from PC's to video games.  Kinect has only been out since November 4th, and it's December 19th now.

Wii did this four years ago. There is no new genre of game here.

Wii is just a silly controller that can notice a little motion, it is very limited in what it can do.  Can it hear sounds in your living room, can it act as a remote control with movies without having to pick it up, can it interact with voice commands, can it know who you are?

I own a wii and it does a terrible job of motion control, I can just put it in my hand and flick it and I don't have to run.  Kinect can see if I am doing pushups and If I am doing it wrong.  Kinect can know when I leave the room.  Kinect knows my voice, Kinect can pinpoint me in the room.  The wii is old hat.  I know, I own one.

Sales will crash in January so hard, especially software, watch this space.

Yes of course it will, sales always drop after christmas.  I have never seen this NOT happen for any platform after Christmas.  Duh.    Water is wet.

You are not that bright are you?

When you talk about how awesome Kinect is, why do you just keep comparing it to the holodeck, and not name any specific software for it what so ever?

What killer software besides maybe Dance Central does this amazing holodeck thingy have to play? What specific killer software has been announced? Gamers play games, gamers do not play potential.

You don't need to be a viral marketer to appreciate MS and the great inventions they offer for us gamers.

*edit: I need to get some sleep

I never said one needed to be.

And it's not 'geats inventions', it's invention, and it has yet to prove that it's great.
