Forums - Sales - Kinect launch success????? Some figures.

Impressive. Doesn't it get beaten by DS though? And let's not forget Pokewalker:

Pokémon Heart Gold / Soul Silver Version Sales (DS)

Pokémon Heart Gold / Soul Silver Version Sales (DS) Sales History (Launches Aligned)

Summary of weekly unit sales from launch broken down by region (for first 10 weeks of sale)

Not to undermine Kinect's sales or anything, but good luck MS, ;). FW sales are same as Kinect's 6 week sales. Wow.

Uncomparable , you cannot compare new systems to new add ons.

I dont agree.

Kinect is a platform.

Lawl x) so I can play Kinect without X360. Yep tell me how?

Yes, Kinect is a platform. But not a console. It can be played without X360.

I said that because formerly it's released as an add-on for the X360.

As for Kinecthacks Kowenicki (thanks for the link btw) you're not proving your point of view but mine, it needs a pc. It is an add-on no matter what and not a platform. And I don't think that people who're using it on PC will make good games or games at all.

It's funny how we can't compare handheld consoles against home consoles, but we can compare peripherals against home consoles.

i'll second that

Kinect is a platform, a "platform" is a broader term than "console" and does not have to be a complete gaming unit.

And yeah, this is a very strong launch.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

So can a Wii Remote and Wii games be used and played without a Wii...

But Wii Remote is a controller. Not a platform.

"WITH KINECT YOU ARE THE PLATFORM!"

Kinect launch = success

This thread = failure

Wow, some people.

Kinect is a platform.  The games are separate from standard 360 games, they REQUIRE Kinect to play their games and you CAN'T play Kinect games without a Kinect device.

Now instead of griping over what you feel or don't feel is considered a platform, how about you comment on the actual figures themselves?  He is free to make any comparison that he wishes and I think it seems some of you can't get past a single word.

Would you rather he put best "hardware" launch ever? Or even "gaming hardware" or "motion platform"?

Stop derailing a perfectly reasonable thread, it's against the rules.  Perhaps you can have a mod clear up these off topic, irrelevant posts?

OT:  That really is impressive.  It does show the haters that Kinect is moving plenty of software given its age and current userbase.  Great thread.

Let's get this straight. The Move/Kinect/Wii Remote are not platforms. Needing one to play a motion game on either the PS3/360/Wii does not make them a platform, and does not make them hardware. They are peripherals. They are motion devices that allow you to play motion games on your platform/hardware of choice.

Talking about Kinect sales is fine, so long as they aren't being flounted as anything that they aren't. Don't come in here pre-emptively crying "DERAILMENT!" when all that is being pointed out is that a comparison with console hardware is redundant.

Since when does "platform" have to equal "console"?  Oh, by the way, retailers do consider Kinect a console actually... The SKU's they use for Kinect are the same category as for the actual consoles, while Move and Wiimotes are obviously just accessories.

But I digress.  You can have multiple platforms on a single machine, just so you know. Take operating systems for example, or services like Netflix and OnLive which are obviously platforms that can run along other platforms on a single machine.

And by all means, if you feel the need to point it out, do so in a PM or wall post, but don't derail a thread over nitpickign of one little word choice that has a variety or definitions.

Kinect has been a monster this holiday season, something I wrote off myself but ended up picking one up lol... those are some impressive sales figures and yes the kinect is seen as a new hardware entry for microsoft, not an add on.  You dont pour more money into advertising for an add on than you do for the console it adds onto, and microsoft themselves confirmed that kinect would see the largest marketing push in company history.

Kinect is not an add on? News to me.

Try playing a Kinect without an Xbox 360 and get back to me.

It doesn't matter what it's "seen as." The fact is that it's an add no matter how you try to spin it, and thus shouldn't be compared to the Wii. Comparing Kinect to the balance board would be a more accurate comparison.
