Kinect's software is doing well, but honestly I expected Dance Central to be doing better by this point, considering how big Just Dance is.  Then again, I expected Rock Band to quickly eclipse Guitar Hero, and that never really happened until the genre nosedived anyway.

OP should also probably point out that Wii Play was Japan only for the first six weeks.

but just dance has a lot more possible customers. you cant expect that 5 million people buy dance central with 4 million kinect owners and a lot of those 4 million will be christmas gifts so a lot of people just bought kinect wihout an additional game .

Well, I didn't expect 5m sales... but I also didn't expect it to get outsold by Kinect Sports.  Dance Central seemed positioned as the killer app, with a TON of advertising (I've seen more DC ads than all other Kinect games combined), it not being past a million by now is just slightly disappointing imo.  It's still doing well, just not as well as I thought it would.

Kinect Sports on the other hand is doing quite a bit better than I expected.

The sports mini-games and such are more familiar to the populous when you talk about motion gaming, when dealing with a type of controller scheme they're not familiar with.  I think that the longer Kinect is out, then people will start getting used to the idea of it, just as the Wii's controls, now natural to most of us, has drifted into our hearts over time.

Is Kinect a success?  Yes

Will Sony and Nintendo fanboys admit it? No

/Thread

I fully admit the Kinect is a massive success right now. But it's too small a sample size. We are in the holiday season, during its launch, which makes it easier to sell a product. The key will be the longevity, which I believe will not really last beyond this holiday season. Even the 32x was sold out during its first holiday season.

If you look at the games, they are already not really selling. So eventually, one of two things will happen. Either Kinect will start to get some killer aps (there are certainly none announced yet) and will keep selling hardware, or third parties will keep making games like the ones now, and Kinect sales will fall off a cliff as a result.

Its worked for Wii for 4 years so why shouldn't it work for Kinect? And before you start naming good Wii exclusives, think after a bit, then start naming the ones that did good; oh yeah a total of 2 games, while Wii fit still outsells them combined and it has a sequel. Casual market don't need good games period.

You cannot be more wrong with that statement. Casual players are not stupid. They recognise quality games just like the so called hardcore. That is why the only three good Kinect games are selling decently, while all the bad Kinect games are selling badly.

And trying to compare the wm add on or wii balance board to what kinect is about doesnt wash for me.

Kinect, Move, WM , Wii Balance Board, PS Eye...all fall into the same category whether we like that or not.

This not a matter of debate or semantics, it's fact.   You may not like it and feel Kinect deserves special recognition but it doesn't given the classification of the type of hardware product that Kinect is.

So bust out the site rules that say you have to compare only certain material to others.  YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT, if he wants to he can and will . So read the info and don't complain like every other poster on this thread. We don't need comments from peanut gallery. How about 5 comments about one thing not 500.

What have you contributed?

Do you see anything in my post stating he can't compare them?  No.  You see me elaborating on the classification issue that was being debated.

As for being peanut gallery, I'm in the industry and believe I've earned my right to speak my opinions...just as much as anyone else has.  Nor do you see anything in my post complaining about anything.  I'm stating facts.  Facts aren't complaints.

What have I contributed?  Try page 1 where I make the first real contribution to the thread notating the DS had a better launch as was querried by the thread starter.

So before you get banned again, read the posts better, make your debate points better and pick your fights better.

Kinect is a major success and the way you word it is words from a biased persons point of view or  just strait jealousy.

It is a major success and should be recognized as so.  So your stealthiness Is fine and all but we see what your doing.

So I guess you missed my post further up when I said Kinect launch is a success?   And it seems you have no interest in comprehending what I'm telling you since you're suggesting my posts are hedged jealousy instead of the actual purpose being that of informing the facts regarding classification.

Do you really need to validate your purchase so much that you'll continually makes illogical claims and infer erroneous information about my posts?   Are you that insecure?  Nothing in any of my posts, aside from stating the launch was a success, speaks of any subjectivity.  It speaks a lot when a Kinect apologist takes the posts from someone who sided with them regarding the success of the product and tries to make it out to be a negative slight against it.  You do yourself and other Kinect fans no favors by continuing your line of debate.
