I don't understand some of these comments being made. I've played a few games that are set during the Greek ages and Spartans are normally hostile and all about war. I've read about that & have even seen it in cartoons such as Hercules when I was younger. Obviously those who love to kill don't care too much about others do they? Anyway, Kratos wanted to win the battle he was in because he was about to die & he sold his soul to Ares. In order to make the perfect warrior Ares tricks Kratos into killing his family. His family wasn't supposed to be in the town he attakced, but somehow Ares arranged that so nothing would hold Kratos back.
Once Kratos goes through his journey and opens Pandora's box he releases the evil which then consumed the gods once Kratos killed Ares. In the beginning of GOW 2 you can see where Zeus turns on Kratos and tricked him into putting all of his power into the Blade of Olympus. Once he does that to defeat the giant statue, Zeus nearly kills him which sends him to the underworld. Now throughout all of these events who wouldn't want revenge? Who wouldn't be overly pissed off? Athena may have told him not to do this or that, but for those that played GOW 3 know that near the beginning Athena wants Kratos to kill Zeus as well. Therefore does her words hold any meaning from the previous GOW games? No, not really because she understands everything in the 3rd game. & obviously the Titans merely used him as a pawn which you find out after beating beating Posideon.
So how is his rage one that is blind? I mean hell people back in those times killed others over something like not cooking food right or being late. In my opinion, Kratos' character makes perfect sense for the game.
