Also, you are saying Osama Bin Laden should of one SSJ?

Seriously?

Yes, because he one of the people who had one of the biggest impacts in USA history. The article would have put the USA in bad light though, due to the fact it would have had to go into detail about the fact we gave him money and weapons to take over the region his Taliban soldiers occupy.  Then again, we could have also had Saddam too since he was also put into power by our government.

Maybe the USA needs to stop giving control of governments, money, and weapons to people outside this country? We cause our own problems.

You do realize that when people like Hitler won "Man of the Year" it was BEFORE he went all genocidal right?   Man of the year is supposed to be a positive award.  The person or people they think had the most positive influence on the world.

I would also like to point out that Assange has only really turned up in the last few weeks, so a bit late for the awards. And it is NOT a popularity contest

its not a popularity content, its about impact.  Mark Zuckerberg by far truly had no impact on the web for reasons I stated in this thread. Assange, and several others, had bigger impact.

As far as i know, we supported the Mujehadin (sp?), and not the Taliban who emerged in the civil war after the Soviet withdrawal. Bin Laden also supported the Mujehadin, but stopped caring about Afghanistan after the Soviet withdrawal as well. He only returned there because the Sudan would not give him asylum, while the Taliban was willing to, even though the Taliban were the ones who had pushed out his old allies (who have been our allies again in the Northern Alliance)

Julian Assange is in the journalism business and he's a professional hacker and stuff. He would be the stupidest guy in the world if he were to rape someone. He knows how easy it is to dig for informations and he knows people are constantly after him and most likely following his very gesture. I call it fake.

Yes, because celebrities have NEVER committed crimes.  Ever.  OJ Simpson was innocent too.

Then why give it to Putin in 07? He had broken ranks with the West pretty cleanly by then

I actually agree that Zuckerberg and Facebook are far more impactful over this last year than Assange.

I would guess because he fixed Russia's economy and is extremely popular in Russia.

That is the funny thing isn't it?  I mean I woudln't give it to facebook either, what with Twitter surpassing it, but hey.  Facebook has been more impactful then Assange... who's leaks haven't really accomplished much yet except a couple people getting fired.

His leaks woke people up to pay attention to world politics. He accomplished awakening the public to real journalism instead of the crap you get on cable news channels.

As for the people who are laughing at Lady Gaga, sadly while I dislike her/him, it brought back the craziness of the music of the past with the wacky costumes and out-there music. While not original as it stole its look, the statement and impact on music in the last year remains the same.

People voted who they felt was most influential and had the greatest impact, hence why people like Jon Stewert and Steve Colbert is there. Their rally for sanity/fear was massive.
