So I guess we can declare Wii and PSP as the winners of this year, the battle ended up quite soon.

Nice opening for both Ni No Kuni and Donkey Kong Country: Returns, I expect them to show strong legs, specially Donkey Kong Country: Returns which I hope it gets near the million mark.

The figures for Gran Turismo 5 are beyond terrible, this game is without a doubt the bomb of this year in Japan, I didn't see that coming.

Gran Turismo 5 and PS3 are clearly the losers of this holidays.

GT5 was saved by a strong first week. It'll end up with at least 70% of GT4's sales. At the moment it doesn't look like DKCR will get anywhere near DKC3's 1.7 million. So I submit that, at least for now, DKCR is the bomb of the year in Japan.

Wow at DKCR! Didn't expected such high sales!

On the other hand I expected much higher sales for GT5.

You think that's hogh for DK? Don't make me laugh, tohse are dissastrous sales.

Hey, you're a nice guy (really) and very funny to boot (I like your crazy threads), but I noticed something consistent with people like you who are very fervent supporters of this or that console/game - you set yourself very very high (often very unrealistic) expectations and then anything that doesn't go by these is a disaster, even if by normal parameters it is actually doing great...

I just expected it to do in par with other DK games. Was that much to ask? No, it wasn't.

I hear ya Beuli, I thought the same of GT5. It's like I said, either those games weren't enough to fulfill past expectations, or Japan is a shifting market.

GT5 sales are terrible comparing with it epic history in Japan... but Sony shipped just 500k... so by the Sony expectation GT5 has done great.

I mentioned this a while ago in another thread. Japan simply isn't what it once was back during the SNES and PS1 era. We'll probably never see another western developed million seller in Japan. I mean it's mind-boggling enough as it is that Black Ops has a shot at 500k.

:edit: Broken link. Here's what I was referring to.

We have Donkey Kong Country 3 overtracked, according to Media Create it sold 1.2 million copies.

No no. I think we overexpected this game to perform well. What some people forget is that DK is a forgotten franchise, or at least to what it used to do in japan. If it has legs and maybe edge to 1 million, then that would be amazing imo. 2 weeks ago i didnt expect it to do 500k LTD, at least it now has a decent FW! And we still havent gotten in the big holiday weeks yet

Well, DKCR may have a chance at 1m; if it can keep at 150k for the next three weeks and harvest legs from NSMB's giant platformer base, it's quite possible.

“These are my principles; if you don’t like them, I have others.” – Groucho Marx

Nintendo will win again Japan this year.

The Wii will eat the PS3 , it has a much better momentum.

The PSP passed the DS on the year but is dropping too fast when the DS is doing better due to holydays and will continue to improve. The DS will finish ahead.

Other things

1) DK sales could have been higher, I hope it has legs

2) Japan preview is useless and very often completely wrong. I won't bother reading it again.

DK sales aren't too bad, I expected a little over 200k, but I'm happy
