1) China is at number 13 of the countries who oppress christians most, thats incredible if you think about it that there are more christians than members of the govern party (80 million).

2) Ive read somewhere that there were more than 200 million victims because of stalin, lenin, the chinese government and so on, i dont have a link on that but i think we both agree, that communism (and thus atheism) caused more victims than every political and religious ideology.

1) LOL, yet another dumbshit rating, I pressume? Why do they make those ratings? Is this because some people can't comprehend things unless they are put in rating? =) Though it should be noted they did opress Christians even before they become 'communist', and rightfully so. They defend their cultural identity from missioners. I'd bet many europeans would be willing to do so in regards to Islamic minority (even those who're not that religious), but they can't, because they live in Death Camp of Tolerance =) But I've drifted away from the topic.

2) LOL yet again. If we do continue our talk on that intellectual level, why wouldn't we count 'victims of capitalism'? =) When did it started in lived up to this day? About four centuries ago by now? So should we write down every damn victim of war, famine and mistreatment in 'capitalistic' countries or caused by 'capitalistic' countries as 'victim of capitalism' for that period of time? Like enclosure prior to industrial revolution in England, that caused massive pauperization of hundred thousands of people. In result of Opium Wars tens millions have become and opium addicts, millions have died. Famine due to Great Depression in US caused 5 million deaths, mostly children etc. Seriously speaking though, the way the question is put it's just plain stupid. Please, read something not so idiotic next time.

Sorry, maybe you didnt understand, with for most part christian countries, i meant, where the teachings of jesus christ have had significant influences in politics and society, and where most of the people are still christians.

And nearly every western country is (for the most part) christian then.

I hope you understand now. (i know you even did before but whatever...)

When you say "Islamic country" that implies a country where people are forced to live by Islamic law. The same could be understood when you say "Christina country". There are no "Christian countries" in the West. Only secular countries where (in theory) people can practice whatever religion they want, and (in theory) religion has no influence in the Public Sphere, as it's considered a private matter than only concerns the individual.

Also, Jesus is overrated and uninteresting.

...

Are you serious?

(i dont mean the jesus part, thats your subjective opinion)

YES!

It is, and that's the point of the add, people are pretty hatefull of atheist around here.

Btw, the most hounded believer (including non-believer/atheists) on the world are christians, 170 thousands are diying every year because of their faith.

Have you read the part where people would rather see/meet an ex-convict than an atheists in the street? Really, a fourth of the population says they HATE atheists. Sure, christians must be more hated than that in some islamic countries or shit like that, whatever, that's to be expected and there's very little you can do about it, it's a very different matter with the prejudice against those who don't believe in god.

The religious promotion ads do get annoying but i still don't entirely agree with these ads its almost like its trying to stereotype the religious, and promote the idea that religion leads to destruction or bad things, they even put up pictures comparing.

See that makes no sense to me, Greece & Rome invented western civilization, all the great things they did, Hell Sparta itself was more advanced than most of us are today, they had nothing against gays and women had rights, and they were heavily religious, or how about the Renaissance no wait that time period was full of skeptics and philosophers, Renaissance people were all a bunch of god forsaken atheist! D:

This is only going to make theists like myself resent atheists more. It's bad enough when people of faith preach to others, but when the faithless preach there no f*cking point to it exept to let people know they're here. Pretty freaking pretentious to me. So yeah, when atheists preach it's alot worse because there is no point whatsoever to it.

Yes Stalin was an atheist, but I'm not a communist responsible for 40 million deaths, and I don't plan to be either. I'm not Stalin. Same I'm sure the terrorists responsible for 9/11 were muslims, but I'm sure the muslims I spoke to wouldn't condone their murders, etc...

He wasn't communist either, and in no way responsible for 40 million deaths. In fact, I have doubts he was an atheist as well, he graduated from Orthodox religious school in Gori, Georgia and was responsible for revival of Orthodox Church in USSR in 40s. In no way it's a proof that he was a religious person though, likely had pragmatic reasons to do so.

@OP

I'm suprised, I though Brazil and most of South American countries are highly religious.

Yes he was educated in Christianity. However under the U.S.S.R he was responsable for millions of Christians being slaughtered. I know people who's families fled the Ukraine to avoid being slaughtered by the Soviets. The USSR countless Christians and persecuted any and all who weren't killed like Dogs. If Stalin was a Christian he would never ever have promoted these attrocities or taken part in them. So saying he was a Christian is really really stretching reality quit a bit.

Other then Mai's statement's I am very suprised. I came into this thread expecting a wall of fire up against a few Christian's but I come instead upon a united front. Athiests and Christians and Muslims all agreeing that most of these ads went too far.

I myself have heard about the ads in Canada. I believe I saw one or two in Vancouver. But to be honest I don't think it needs to be advertised here as our educational system promotes it well enough and our country doesn't really discriminate against Athiests.

All the attack ads will do is create more animosity towards Athiests, in a devoutly religious country they should be promoting freedom of beliefs over attacking peoples beliefs. Even the ad about religion avoiding questions is alittle harsh as many Christians do have questions and do seek the answers. The ad essentially calls Christians and other faiths dumb and niave.

I'd like to see freedom of belief ads, ads that promote this freedom that is essential to democracy. Rather then attack ads and immaturity.

An ad like Think of Freedom, freedom of thought. I think that would be an awsome ad-campaign and it would do alot more for athiests then an attack ad.

Was he not the man in charge of the Soviet Union? If the US army went into Afghanistan and rounded up Muslims placing them in prison camps and executing them. Obama would be held responsable, he's the man in charge of the United States.

So if the USSR kills millions of people including Christians. Shouldn't he be held accountable? I mean he was the leader during that time. If the leader isn't accountable who is? If you say the commanders are you saying Stalin didn't know and approve of what his commanders were doing? If it was Generals wouldn't the commanders be responsable and Stalin inturn be responsable for those commanders.

Next thing we'll say Hitler wasn't responsable for the Nazi's extermination of the Jews because he physically didn't kill them. Stalin is as bad as Hitler was and should be held to account for his actions.

Also being Mennonite, I have many family friends who fled persecution in Russia. Largely the Ukraine but I know of others who fled eastern Russia too. So don't try telling me it never happened. Christians were rounded up and executed they were persecuted non-stop by the Soviets and Stalin was in charge was he not?

@Joelcool7

Really? Given my previous experience talking to you, you've been proven ill-informed (not to say ignorant) on many things you're posting here outside of gaming. Believe me, I know my history. To you, maybe, 4 or 40 million killed doesn't make any difference (duh, still a shitload), but it does to me, I'm perfectly informed about what Stalin is responsible for and what he isn't. Your's "he was responsable for millions of Christians being slaughtered" is absolutely incorrect, there weren't any millions slaughtered in USSR due to their religious views (though it doesn't mean that Orthodox clergy and Orthodox Church in general wasn't oppressed, it was, up unitl the 40s, when it was revived despite position of official ideology), in fact, there weren't any millions slaughtered at all at the time, unless you count German invasion.

It's not my mission to educate you, but if you want to know the truth let me know.

Whenever people try to say Atheism was the cause of deaths of millions because stalin or pol pot were atheists it's daft and nonsensical. It's taking a complex set of political ideologies, and economic ideas and pointing and saying "if they believed in a deity they wouldn't have had these political views!" Does it matter what kind of deity they believe in? If stalin was a spinozan deist would that have stopped him? What about if he had been wiccan? Maybe if he believed in the greek pantheon of gods? Would that have prevented it? If the answer is "no" then atheism was not the cause, because it still would have happened in the absence of it. Or is the implication that only Jesus can save us from collectivism through violence, media propoganda, and ethnic cleansing? It's a daft, ignorant view arrived at by simplistic correlation. Why not just claim that mustaches lead to mass violence? There is a correlation there as well.
