If it's that much of a problem just break her finger. That'll stop her...

But in all seriousness, just don't react to it. She'll get bored after a couple of hours and just forget about it. If she asks what it means just don't reply, if she shoves it in your face just don't bat an eyelid. Kids thrive on attention for things like this.

Either that or just tell her it's a swear word.  I mean at six she should know what that means.

She probably knows what it means already anyway. I mean when I was six I understood what the British equivalent to the middle finger was (The same, but we use index finger as well)
. Chances are she knows it's swearing and taking full advantage of it.

An by calling her on it then she can't play the innocent game.

The way to stop kids from using foul language or gestures is to tell them that they're out of fashion.  Tell her that "the finger" was only used by stupid people in the 1700s, and that if anybody uses it in public today they usually go straight to jail for being so boring and lame.

Just like kids whose parents play Grand Theft Auto makes it automatically uncool for their kids to play it.

I was playing poker with my 6-year-old sister, and she told me that she wanted 1 card, raising up a finger while telling me that. From my thread title I think it's pretty obvious which finger it was.

I told her to not do that, but she asked me "why not?". I then told her that it's not nice and appropriate to raise that finger, but that wasn't a good enough answer for her. Now, my sister's the type of evil kid that does exactly the opposite of what you tell her to, so she continued keeping that finger raised, and told me that she likes that finger and she won't stop 'till I tell her what it means.

Any advice on how to solve this?

Just tell what body part it represents.  That'll get her to stop be curious.

fixed.

Punch (not like brutally) or pinch her every time she does that or tell on her or find some kind of leverage that'll make her submit to not doing that.  And continue to do this until she's old enough to realize and understand its was never a good thing to do.

....i stopped giving the finger after i gave one to my gym teacher when i was 10 so you might have to continue battling her for another 4 years or so.  Maybe less, girls mature faster lol

Trick her into doing it in front of your parents.

She's the diabolically smart 6-year-old.
