I hate that gift card bullshit, instead of giving you a giftcard, why don't they just take that money off the price of the ps3. lol

Because $100 of store credit does not equal $100 of real money.

it's a gimmick plain and simple. spend 4x the money for that giftcard. Instead of doing that, just take it off the price of the purchase, but off course they won't let you do that. A giftcard just isn't a selling point to me,slashing the price on the other hand. lol

they could do that and just slash the price but its a business and they are there to make money. giving giftcards instead of a stright price discount would make sure that the $100 savings on the ps3 goes to them as well.

honestly, its so simple that its painfull to see people question such a no brainer sales strategy...

Looks like Sony is now getting desperate once again since Move failed to be as appealing as Kinect.

one more example of the following:

If Microsoft does something: It's a Genius Marketing ploy.

if Sony does the same: It's desperate.

i have seen it so many times, and it's still funny

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Are you trolling, or can you simply not read?

You see, I'm talking market share, not numbers. The PS3 isn't doing better in US than the 360 in Japan if it does 500k whilst 360 does 100k in Japan; its competitors are still tied at ten times its sales.

Oh, and I'm obviously not thinking that PS3 will do that terribly (not even close, xD) in US, just not high enough to be comparable to the Wii and 360.

PS3 US market share: 20.8%

360 Japan market share: 7.8%

Bolded, :P.

Sweet. It's about time! haha. I was just wondering why it seemed like Walmart always did it for 360 but not ps3. Anyways, who takes the hit of that $100 gift card (or $75)? Is it all WalMart/Amazon? Or is Sony taking that money out of their profit? Or both? I don't see how it could be all WalMart/Amazon bc there's no way they even make $75 or $100 on each ps3 sold...

Anyone know?

There were repors of Sony over shipping the PS3 this holiday (actually there was a thread about it but I can't find it) so I guess Sony'll take the hit.

I'd like to see that link for that myself. Anyways, there's no doubt Sony overshipped on their PS3 and Move bundles. At least in the U.S. they did. I know the PS3 is selling much better overseas, but is it easy to find PS3 in European retail stores? You can walk into any U.S. store and get one. I think the Move Bundle (no system) was sold out earlier on, but they are in stock now.

i was at the store the other day and found this...

laundry detergent soo overshipped these days....

$100 of store credit means you buy merchandise at marked up prices, with the profit going to the store. If the store instead gave $100 cash back they lose $100, pure and simple. With $100 of store credit they might be only giving away $50 or $60 of merchandise at their cost level. It is pretty easy to understand why stores do it.
