ohh may help the PS3 alot

Sweet. It's about time! haha. I was just wondering why it seemed like Walmart always did it for 360 but not ps3. Anyways, who takes the hit of that $100 gift card (or $75)? Is it all WalMart/Amazon? Or is Sony taking that money out of their profit? Or both? I don't see how it could be all WalMart/Amazon bc there's no way they even make $75 or $100 on each ps3 sold...

Anyone know?

There were repors of Sony over shipping the PS3 this holiday (actually there was a thread about it but I can't find it) so I guess Sony'll take the hit.

lol  It wasn't a report of overshipping, it was one guy who worked at a store that took pics of 3 stacks of PS3's. Apparently he didn't know that more consoles are shipped in the holiday season.

OT Sounds like a great deal and should give a nice boost to PS3 sales that week.

If I were to guess, it's a cross-promotion between the store and Sony. The margin on the PS3 for retail is, well, bad. (Last wholesale I'd heard was $290 for the $299.99 model.) Sony helps to move more PS3s, and the stores, by giving a temporary loss in a giftcard, can move closer to break-even when it is used. However, I can't see either store taking the full hit, due to the excessive red ink that would be incurred.

If this doesn't help then, in 2011, Americas is gonna be a 2 console market again, like Japan.

Looks like Sony is now getting desperate once again since Move failed to be as appealing as Kinect.

Failure is one thing the Move definitely is not. Just because one product has more sales than another it doesn't mean that the one with more sales is better. Both are great devices and even Sony themselves are saying that Move is performing well above expectations.

This is a promotion, not a move of desperation.
