It'll work until something better comes along. Really the only games similar to Call of Duty are Medal of Honor and Battlefield and those both suck. Games like Resistance, Halo and Killzone are great but they are so different to CoD that they don't really directly compete. If something similar but better than CoD comes along like Respawn Entertainment's new game or Bungie's new game it will kill Call of Duty.

Battlefield will never top cod for a simple reason - you need skills and tactics for it ;)

so battlefield doesnt need tactics? im not much of a battlefield player but from what ive seen it requires team work.

Erm that's what i wrote- BF requires skill and tactics hence it doesn't have a chance to dethrone Cod.

LOL @ COD being "hardcore"

I'm not sure what to think to be honest.

MW2 sold insanely well compared to MW1.

Black Ops I thought wouldn't sell as well as MW2 cause it didn't have "Modern Warfare" in the title, yet everyone seems to gobble up "Call of Duty" despite the earlier games not doing much in terms of sales (or at least compared to the newer ones). Right now it looks like the sales will do nothing but go up - so I expect Modern Warfare 3/the next call of duty to sell even more, and the next game to do the same and so on.

It's not only going to have to take a game to play better - but advertise better and get the massive word of mouth. Everyone on my friends list has black ops and everyone has spread the word about the game... and yeah It's pretty damn casual to.

Will sales eventually drop? It really depends on Activision - will they go pay to play? Will they change nothing in the way of future games and turn into Dynasty Warriors? It's really all in Activision's hands.

It's just that simple.

Sure it didn't work with Guitar Hero, that is a casual franchise. Casual players don't feel the need to buy games every yeat. However, milking the Call of Duty franchise might actually work because hardcore gamers will buy the same game with little improvements....after all they are hardcore!

Will Activision milking work? I say it will as long as each Call of Duty has something new to bring to the table (Ex Zombies Spec OPs).

As long as it keeps bringing stuff that gamers want to the table, yes, yes it will.
