When does it come out!?  I have all of the games for the GBA, DS, N64, GC, and Wii but I wanna play the All Stars version on my TV!!  I already have SMW three times so it's not that big of a deal to me.

If you live in the US, Sunday. It's out already in EMAA and Japan.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

agreed....while I'm still going to pick it up as a collector's item, I think that it should have had the snes games on it

I started making videos for youtube; check them out.

Systems owned: Atari 2600, NES(3), Top loader NES, Yobo NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, Sega Gamegear, Sega Nomad, Sega Saturn, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Playstation 2, Wii, PS3 (slim 120 GB), Wii U

You should congratulate me. I destroyed the vile red falcon and saved the universe. I consider myself a hero.

I agree, I was more interested in the book and music but after learning there are only 10 bgm and 10 sounds I was very disappointed.

I'm only interested in the book now, but I decided not to buy it. Nintendo could do a lot more with this.

Wii Friend Code: 4268-9719-1932-3069

That whole package is probably smaller than your average PSN/XBLA downloadable game!!  But I'm not complaining.  I'm just pointing it out.

There are two likely explanations.

1. Nintendo would have put more into it if they knew how high the demand would be.

2. Malstrom is right, and Nintendo doesn't see 2D Mario as worth the effort (because they like making 3D Mario more), which is why Galaxy 2 got all the polish over this game and NSMBWii.

The real answer is probably this: Some random guy at Nintendo thought "hey we could do something for Mario's 25th anniversary!" and they had to make a package that was worth buying in less than 3 months. So all they could do was pack the SNES game on a disc and put effort into the booklet and package. Fear of bad Christmas sales probably helped here.

This game definitely got priority from a production standpoint: The box looks really great, they made a cool manual for it, the booklet is high quality and the soundtrack CD looks cool. (And it doesn't look like the people responsible for music wanted to show their "genius" with the CD, really. It is just a random collection of songs and the Mario Galaxy soundtrack is definitely one of the most amazing soundtracks in any Mario game)

All that "booh Nintendo hates 2D Mario" is just a stupid Malstrom thing. Last year we got a 2D Mario, this year we got the classic collection, a Mario bundle (and a Donkey Kong Country) and I'd take any bet in 2012 we will see a new 2D Mario for the DS. 2D Mario is probably the most used AAA franchise in Nintendo's developer kitchen right now.

Edit: That also reflects my opinion regarding the OP. I would'Ve liked some more sugar and spice in here as well but I guess the game didn't have much, if any, development time. And I'm really happy we got it I love Allstars

Um, there were loads of complaints about lack of polish from even the gaming community, so saying it's just Malstrom shows you haven't been paying attention.

The sales are showing what the public wants, not necessarily what Nintendo wanted with Mario.

I bolded the line you picked on. It was about Malstrom's constant "Nintendo hates 2D Mario" complaints not about the lack of polish in this game. I agree there is a lack of polish and they could've done more but as I said it was most likely a very late decision so they couldn't add anything to the game. Who's the one not paying attention now? (just joking)

And as your last sentence truthfully sates it is about what the public wants not what Nintendo wants. And with these sales Nintendo definitely won't put Super Mario Bros. on a 15 year break this time I don't care whether Miyamoto curses all throughout the development time, he's gonna make it and he doesn't have the heart to just rush such a game...poor guy

No, the game is fine as it is. It's meant to be a brutal punch in the face of the video game industry:

"We [Nintendo] can make games that after 25 years still have higher value to paying customers than your brandnew game has after a month."

Oh it could outsell Super Mario Sunshine and Galaxy 2 in Japan just this Christmas season. It's just too much fun to watch it sell...and sell... and sell

Somehow Super Mario Bros. is the only game series I can think of that will never be "outdated". It's just like Monopoly and Card games - even the old games never get old. The first true classic of videogaming.

i just reckon they could have done more with the Allstar game thats all. its just a port of the snes classic, the Optical disk or Dual Layer has more space then cartridges that they could have atleast Remastered Mario All stars and added more old Mario games like "Mario World" or even added the Mario game i never played in my life "Mario Sunshine".. maybe it will happen for its 30th Anniversary?

It's absolute true.  As is, it comes off as a cheap and dirty cash-in instead of honouring the classic character.

Either adding (alot) more classic Mario games or given those 4 the NSMB graphic treatment should have happened.

Still, the price isn't bad, and I'll probably get it, but still it's disappointing.

But it's only 30 bucks, and you get all the extra goodies like the soundtrack and the booklet with the artwork and history of Mario. If you bought all these Mario games on the VC it'd cost around the same price, and you wouldn't get the updated graphics. I like having being able to have these classic games on a physical media. Plus I am interested in checking out the booklet with the Mario history. I think it's meant to be more of a collectors item more than anything.

This a trend for Nintendo this gen. Wii Play, Wii Music and Disaster:DoC all felt lazy when compared to many of Nintendo's past efforts. Sure they are still making high quality games, but as the first reply pointed out -- why put in a big effort into it when they can half ass it? I don't see the incentive for Nintendo to do anything beyond the bare minimum when their paltry efforts do so well.
