Thanks anyway...not yet but maybe at the end of the Holidays! People would just make an excuse and say things like "well its only 430K behind so its not really a distant #3" by the end it could be behind even more which leaves less room for excuses...

"But, but, it's only 2m behind! That's not distant!"

xD, too bad I wasn't here; would have wanted cut into your share of crow serving, :P.

You can certainly take some share if you want since you agree with me Lol!

Also, I bet some people on here actually would say that Lol.(2 Million)

Out of the 9,384,664 pieces of software for the Wii 2.2 million of them were bundled with a Wii console and resulted in $0.00 additional revenue.

Last year out of the 10,055,875 pieces of software for the Wii 1.46 million of them were bundled with a Wii console and resulted in $0.00 additional revenue.

Your point being?

There is no point. He is only stating the obvious: that bundled software doesn't result in profit.

Why are both of you assuming that a machine bundled with a game costs as much as the machine would without the game? The Wii's launch prices in countries it launched with Wii Sports compared to the ones it didn't tell a completely different story.

And where he gets his 2.2 million pieces of software from is just strange. Did he add up all the NSMB Wii, Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort sales? That would account to 2.2 million. That's just plain silly, though, as only a fool would expect that anywhere near half - let alone all - of NSMB Wii's, and kind of Wii Sports Resort's, sales are from bundles.

I'd personally say a fairer number is 1054k from Wii, plus ~ 200k from both Wii Sports Resort and  Wii Sports Resort, as well as 50k from Mario Kart Wii in Europe, and possibly 50-100k from Wii Fit Plus is a fairer estimate. So around 1600k bundled software for the Wii, I'd say.

The 2.2 million figure seems kind of ridiculous.

Apologies - I've largely repeated your point before scrolling down to check whether someone had already made the point I was going to.  As for the 2.2 million figure, I suspect the methodology was simpler and less flawed than the one you suggest.  My guess is that there's an assumption that basically all Wiis outside of Japan (i.e. roughly 1.1 million) come bundled with 2 games, hence a 2.2 million figure without any suggestion of how many were WSR, NSMBWii, Mario Kart Wii or Wii Fit.

Ah, of course. Good point, Declan! Thx1139 point is a bit less flawed that way, too.

And no worries about repeating my point, you phrased it better than me anyway ;)

PS3 numbers are still very very good. It did almost the same as last year, although there had been the slim and the price cut in 2009. Nothing to worry about. It's just that the 360 got a big boost because of Kinect, that's why PS3 numbers look so bad in comparison for some people here.

Anyway, amazing numbers for every console and handheld (even the PSP)!

2012 - Top 3 [so far]

Wii came close to outselling the HD twins combined WW... that's pretty impressive, considering that MS and Sony both thought they'd steal the "casual gamer" crowd from Nintendo with Kinect and Move.

Well not many said that the PS3 or X360 will outsell the Wii,but the Wii is down a lot YoY,while the PS3 and X360 are on par and up YOY,respectively.

Of course the Wii is going to be down YoY. When you sell that many consoles, you really have nowhere to go but down. Wii sold a record 3.8 million in the month of December in 2009 in the US, absolutely unprecedented numbers, so in December Wii will probably be massively down. But it's all relative.

Similarly, when you don't sell as many like the PS3 (and until recently, the Xbox 360, it's far easier to be up YoY). What will be key for the Wii is keeping the negative YoY as small as possible from here on out. What counts is not relative things like marketshare or YoY drops but the fact that Wii is still outselling competitors meaning it's still putting further distance between itself and competitors.

Also, the HD consoles have both had console redesigns, which in many ways function like an entirely new launch, as well as MS launching the Kinect, which is even more like a new launch. Without these, the HD consoles would be down roughly the same % YoY as the Wii.

Actually, a great many predicted that both the PS3 and 360 would shoot past the Wii when Move and Kinect came out, since its HD motion controls, taking away the advantage of the Wii. That is exactly the point I was making in my original post - that I'm quite surprized, because I didn't expect the Wii to perform so well either.  In regards to YoY, if the Move and Kinect couldn't at least keep the sales up from the previous year, there would be serious ramifications.  These are major technolody investments and releases for each respective company. The Wii hasn't really had much to offer in 2010 to counter it.

Why are you surprised? The Wii has the killer app software, and it's had some pretty good releases this year.

VERY good sales all round, especially for 2 of the 3 "doomed" consoles (Wii, PSP)

PS3 is still poor, but the 360 (with Kinect) has beaten my expectations. There, I said it

I wonder why people think the PS3 is poor, it's down just 12k. That's hardly poor, just not as high as it's competitors.

Such is the problem, my friend. =/

PS3 needs a price cut come a few months, if Sony can afford it.

Great numbers I must say
