xD. You're not serious. Sony doesn't have a choice in the matter. When the Bii and 720 come along, PS3 will die. They'll need a successor. Also, Sony has had a 10-year plan for all its consoles. Doesn't mean they won't release the next one for three years. Means that they'll keep it alive for 10 years. And with the PS3, I seriously doubt that, too.

One other thing XD Of the 3 current gen consoles PS3 will almost def be the last one standing. Its easily the most future proof console and when they give it a price cut to lets say $199 that would make the cheapest and arguable best 3d blu ray player on the market. Wii and 360 will die probably instantly after there successers come along.

The ps2 was still thriving after the wii and 360 came out so uuuuuuuuuuuuh no XD

Comparing a console that sold 150m to a console that'll be lucky to sell 75m. Comparing a console that was able to dominate smaller markets because of a small price point to a console that'll be too expensive for anyone to buy in those markets.

Good job, :D!

Jay520 is Sony followed your strategy, PS4 would end up like the dreamcast(unfortunately) That is too long of a wait to release thier next console..waaaaaay to long

Sony aiming to be king again and they gonna need to everything to right to get their.

They wil NOT beat anybody 2 years after theirr competitors start..hell some other company might get the jumpstart on them also during thier absence

Why will the 200$ price point affect sales so massively? It only gave a temporary, debatable boost to Wii last year. Also, successful Nintendo consoles have a history of selling well after their successors. Wii'll be no different. Besides, looking at its manufacturing costs, it may even sell for 50$ when all's said and done with. It'll pretty much never stop selling then.

PS4 will release in 2013 - 2015 IMO. It'll depend on when the nextbox releases. I think Sony will release their system 1 or 2 years after the nextbox.

If the PS3 drops to $199 next year then I think the PS4 will release in 2013.

I honestly don't know.

As for the 10 year plan, Sony is saying that the PS3 will still have good support in 2016. Like the PS2 had support up into 2010. That doesn't mean that the PS3 will be the latest Sony console until 2016

i hope to god its called the NeXtbox  its a cool name!

you clearly have no idea about the true strength of ps3

the low price point will help it immensely in EMEAA, it's just a matter of time. compared to the competition PS3 is in a lot of markets that have a huge PS following, the only issue they have is the price point because it's just way way too expensive for them at this point with conversion rates

Wii and 360 will die out within a short time period their successor comes out in comparison, IF we follow how it has been in the past. PS3 won't die that soon, I can see it selling good to ok numbers even in 2015.

And a 100 price drop did wonders for the PS3 since last year, you can't deny that. Not all consoles sales respond the same way as you may think.

Low price point will help, but PS3 will never get there. Or at least not early enough to get any sales. In MEAA, only 99$ or below will have an effect. And, looking at PS3 manufacturing costs, it is almost impossible for PS3 to hit such a price point in time.

By the way, mind showing me data about how much the NES sold after the SNES? The SNES after the N64? Just for comparison. Anyway, Playstations have had legs for three main reasons, complete and utter domination, lots of exclusive third party support and legs due to low price point in MEAA. None of those apply here.

For your last point, it's debatable, isn't it? Did it sell because of the price cut or the redesign? Will a further price cut do the same?
