Forums - PC - EA doesn't expect millions of subs for SWTOR

I guess they really want to dispel the potential wow killer (not that killing wow is possible in the next 3-5 years lol) tag.

Here’s a big quote from EA on the future of The Old Republic, as reported by MCV: “Our assumptions for break-even and profitability are not seven-digit subscribers. We think we can run and operate a very successful and profitable MMO at different levels,” said CFO Eric Brown, speaking at and event in New York. “The key thing here is to really perfect the product. We’re shooting for an extremely high quality game experience. We view this as a ten-year opportunity.”

So they’re not expecting to get into millions of subs, and decade lifespan suggests a long roadmap for expansions. It feels to me like EA/Bioware are gambling that there are enough people who want more from their game that free-to-play titles are perceived to supply that kind of continuous subscription income. And maybe they’ll be right: it could be so high quality that we’ll be fine with paying subs, even against the backdrop of better and better free-to-play stuff out there. Interesting, anyway.

Myself and my mates are more hyped for this then any other up and coming mmo. Why? Because it looks to have more roleplaying then any other mmo. Multiplayer interactive dialogue thats fully voiced? HELL YEAH!

For this game to be successful they'll need to get people interested that generally aren't going to buy into an mmo, such as their single player RPG fans. If they can get those people interested aswell as some of the normal mmo crowd added onto the fact that its got the star wars brand behind it, it should be successful.

ive never ever played any mmo besides maplestory and im deffinatly getting this.

Halo MCC will sell 5+ million copies(including digital)

so they expect billions?

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

I played the beta and I love it, the voiceovers, the combat system... I got bored with WoW after the first day of the trial.

I really want to like this game.

I haven't played kotor but I assume from what I heard it's and outstanding experience, just as Mass Effect is one of my favourite gaming experiences of all time.

Bring it to PS3 EA and i will give it ago. im not into PC gaming anymore and dont want to get back into it

ALTHOUGH bring me 'The Lord of the Rings: The Battle For Middle Earth 3' and im back!
