You make it sound like mutations are a good thing

And Darwins Ideas are not believed by modern scientists

People who don't believe in God are so defensive and ready for the attack on believers. A god or not a god nothing has been proven

Mutations are negative and the chance for just the spark of life in the primordial soup is no astronomical as to be impossible.  Yet these impossible odds continue to happen?

On any other subject scientists would call such statistics as impossible not not this one subject.

Gonna try to not get drawn into the debate about the 'spark of life' argument, however, genetic change over time is inevitable, good or bad. It is literally inbuilt into how life functions. Mutations, are random change, most of them bad indeed, some of them good.

Ok, so i'll say only one thing about the spark of life thing. Life is merely a very complex set of chemical reactions, in which these reactions are dictated/run by DNA. The simplest organism on the planet is not that far removed the a crap load of random chemical reactions meshed together. Given that, its not necessarily impossible that such 'soups' have been or even now can be found on the earth.

Granted, such supposition not evidence and not much better than claims of god. The problem only arrises in the god argument, when lots of completely unfounded claims are added to the question of whether god or gods do or do not exist.

Darwins central theme is indeed believed by modern scientists. That being change over time. All the rest can be easily discarded as a man at the forfront of a fields not yet mature or even invented yet. That being genetics and biodiversity.

And the thing that really gets me is the brain.  It is capable of so much more info gathering and recording.  But in our lifetime a small part gets used.  Why would evolution design it like that.

That's because its a myth that we don't 'use' a large part of our brains.

agreed

Yes I was not clear we do use our different parts of our brain at different times. I'm talking about the capacity for learning.  The brain in itself is a miracle if you believe without question   in evolution. Emotions like love empathy does not seem to coincide with evolution as those individuals would have been killed by the stronger.  The evolutionary "design" of DNA. What am i talking about  Evolution is chaos not a designer..... slaps forehead

I just have remind myself It's only a theory,It's only a theory,It's only a theory

A designer of the earth and it's life by some powerful entity or entities can't be can't be laughed away

I don't believe in athiests. =P

In high school and college, a LOT of my friends were athiests, hardcore ones at. You know, the type that not only don't believe in any form of god, but also insist on verbally attacking anyone who DOES believe.

Anyway, after they had their first kid, they "found God". Its very easy to be young (teens, twenties) and claim athiesm. I generally dismiss that as a phase. Hit your 30s, raise a family and STILL be athiest, then I'll credit you as being athiest. =)

Atheists are the most persecuted group of people in the world.  When you are young, it is a lot easier to be a 'rebel' and not mindlessly go with the social convention.  But when you start a career and family you don't want to risk being the outcast.

I have a career and am starting family now.  I still don't believe in silly superstitions, but I no longer feel comfortable telling co-workers and risking promotions or telling potential parents of my children's friends and risk my children being alientated that I am an atheist.

I can get on the internet and freely vent about how stupid religion is, but at work and other functions I listen to people's stupid convictions with a smile on my face.

Athiest

I am and proud of it.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

Well, the situation here in Portugal is kinda similar for atheists, but it's even worse for confessed Wiccans. From family members outcasting you, to job refusals and global social ostracization, I've suffered pretty much all.

Im still surprised that people in this day and age still believe in this god nonsense. I cant imagine how anyone with any shred of intelligence can even think its possible for there to be a god.

Oh...boy...here is anothe one.

Don't worry about it.  Anyone with any intelligence will tell you that intolerance and self-righteousness are characteristics are not good for human kind.  Just saying.  :)

This is most hypocritical statement I have ever seen. A religous person claiming that the non-religous are more intolerant and self-rightous than people of the Juedo Christian background. I'm afraid that group of people is the epitome of intolerance and self-rightousness. As soon as you claim religion as absolute than religion becomes those very concepts.

I have a relationship with my wife, boss, friends, family, animals, etc, and of course those relationships are all different given the conext of the person involved.  Nothing about this is religious.  I also have a relationship with Christ, and the same priniciple applies.  My different relationships rsult in different outcomes, nothing religious about it aswell.  That is all that matters.  I understand that you don't understand because I used to be there, and that's alright.  I'm not going to understand what it means to be a fireman because I'm not one.  You're not a Christian so you are not going to understand either.  I accept that.

I guess I'm kind of a new age follower, I live by the Law of Life at least. But I don't think there is a god, although I'm open to the idea.

I'm proud to be an Atheist.
