Looks like lightning can finally walk left and right

haha nice one. I'd say she deserves it, a great character in an otherwise disappointing game.

This news is great, Laguna was really cool and I hope his battle theme is added to the game. If they have a world map for FF1 then I think they should do a world map for all the FF's in the game. They have 3 characters from FF7 and FF8, maybe they are planning to have 3 characters from each game in the series.

That would be awesome, but it might upset the balance from Dissidia of having one character from both the "heroes - light" and "evil - chaos" side. Unless they add a new power to the overall panorama of Dissidia, some sort of neutral ground.

Yeah it might upset the balance, but the more the merrier haha. I'd really want to see Vivi, Auron, Locke, Rydia, Basche and Fang (or sazh) as the 3rd characters.

Rydia would be amazing indeed, but I'm kinda biased regarding her, since she's one of my favourite characters in the entire FF universe I agree, the more the merrier.

What would also be really awesome, but a bit of a stretch, would be the inclusion of normal FF universe enemies, like tonberries, bombs and so on to fight, instead of the repeating enemy silhouettes.

Rydia is really good. I think they might include the enemies you want, they seem to be listening to fans and putting in things fans want into this game. I hope it has a better story than the first game, or tries not to have a story if the story won't be good haha.

I really hope so, this has been one of the things that had crossed my mind from the very first moments I began playing the original Dissidia. How epic it would be to tackle a Behemoth or a Weapon enemy using Dissidia's battle system. One can dream xD

I kinda liked the story in the first one, but it was all over the place to call it a proper story. I agree that it would be bet to have no story than a bad one, but since they're incorporating a world map, it kinda feels that it will be more story driven than Dissidia.

Lets hope they will add monsters, it could be fun fighting them in such a way. Then I would be tempted for them to give us the option to be able to use the monsters as a character haha.

Yeah putting in a world map gives me the feel that they are trying more, I hope each Final Fantasy has its world map there in the game, would be fun to see some story from each of the Final Fantasy world's incorporated into Dissidia's Story. Lets see, they said it'll be releasing in Q1 2011 in the West, so not too long a wait.

That would be a good release date, and it would be a smart move from S-E, to keep the momentum after the release of 3rd Birthday.

And to leave my wallet broke too...

Yeah it would be good to have a release from them every 2 months. I must say Square's console games have disappointed me but on the handhelds I see glimpses of the old square-soft. I think what they are planning is The 3rd birthday and Dissidia in Q1 and maybe Agito in Q4.

Handheld wise, S-E has been one of the top companies for me,. DQIX, DQV perfect remake, FFIV amazing remake, Dissidia, Crisis Core, TWEWY, KH:BBS, KH:358/2 days, KH:RE Coded and so on, are in line of the good old S-E of the past. Console wise...not so much.

Agito in 2011 would also be pretty good, but I have my reservations about it, since they haven't shown much yet. Same goes for Versus as well.

I think the reason S-E has done well on handhelds is because they are used to those engines, so they focus more on gameplay variety and story. On consoles they spent too much time focussing on making a engine (crystal tools), graphics and so on (a developer interview of FF13 revealed in effect only around 1.5 years were spent in intensive development on the actual game, the rest was making the engine). Maybe towards the end of the generation we will get better console games. I am just anticipating Agito because they have made no bad game on handhelds so far.

Yup, and from the few tidbits that we were shown from Agito, it seems another pretty solid hit from them. Even though their main focus on handhelds is on gameplay, they also seem to be able to make some pretty darn good engines and evolve them. 3rd birthdays looks much better than KH:BBS which already looked better than Dissidia.

I hope that they continue to improve on both aspects and that, as you put it well, at the end of this generation, at least some part of that knowledge is put to good use on their console games as well.

These sorts of  comments hurt me. Nothing against you Kennyheart. You're damned if take an existing concept and do it a different way, and you're damned if you stick to the mold.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,

I sorta expected Laguna since I was thinking what if FF VIII had another rep and Laguna came into mind... No I'll be honest Rinoa came into mind first

Now I need my YUNA!!!!!!!

So very true. If anything, FF is a series that has been known to change it's formula for each iteration, that's what makes it stand out from other RPG series.

Yet when they promote those kind of drastic changes, they're bound to piss off some of the fanbase, especially those who don't deal with change that easily. That's probably why FF is one of the most polarized series, in terms of fan opinions, in gaming today.

I am fine with square change final fantasy.I love ff12 and thet change a lot of what was final fantasy. It's just with 13 I did not enjoy it as much.I can't wait for versus and that going to be diffrent from the normal final fantasy.

I'm also eagerly awaiting Versus myself. Even with so much change from FF to FF, I still enjoy each and every FF in it's own way. Some more than others, that's true, but I can still find enjoyment in the less good (in my opinion) ones.

Unfortunately, there's always a small core of very vocal fans that get enraged against a determined FF game and then extrapolate that anger to anything else that (S-E in this case" does, as if one game utterly destroys the developer's ability to create good games. Not saying it's your case, far from it, it's just a global assessment of both what I see online and with my day to day friends.
