I'm currently doing the professional races and I've noticed my cars are getting physically deformed when I make mistakes. As for mechanical, I haven't done many to get a full feel but my beloved Tuscan speed 6 no longer works because the breaks and the handling no longer are dead (same thing happened in GT3 and 4 apparently, these cars are notorious for being good in the first 250-450 miles and then dying so...)

Yeah, that's why you have to keep doing both Engine Overhauls and Restore Body Rigidity in the GT Auto store. My Minolta in GT4 suffered a similar fate, but only when I had over 4K Km on it

87k is the asking price to fix it...lulz, I'm not made of money :D

Damn >_<. Actually I'm dreading the moment that starts to happen to my Enzo... the cost will be astronomical.

What I don't understand is why would they not allow the option to have full damage on for veteran players? Why penalize everyone right off the bat and assume they are novices. That would be like an fps forcing you to play through the game on easy for your first play-through.

Also why was there so much secrecy over how the damage system works? If polyphony had just come out and said "hey damage gets unlocked as you go up in levels" all this controversy would have ended and we wouldn't still be having threads about the subject.

I agree on both points.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

I like how at the start of the video that he's all like "I'm a PlayStation fanboy!" lol..... why does that even matter? =P

I agree that it seems a bit odd to implement this system, though with future updates, they'll be tuning it to be more available right from the start:http://www.gtplanet.net/yamauchi-on-gt5s-mechanical-damage-updates-more/

I think this was mainly because Damage wasn't in the plans of GT5 until late in development, after much bickering and annoyance from a vocal group of fans and media about it. In my case, I never was an apologist of damage, since I race in GT5 and any other simulator not to damage my  car, but to drive as smoothly and bump-free as I can.

Heck I can finish a race in GTR-2, Forza 3 and many other sims without even a single scratch, unfortunately, from my experience as well, I've found that the majority of people (especially online) just seem to want to crash into you as much as they can.

I agree that the point of racing should be not to crash but damage is an essential part of a sim. If you're in a 100 lap race and someone slams their car full speed into a wall they can easily get back into the race after a couple laps without damage. I believe they should be penalized for being careless by having their car damaged.

That's true, some kind of penalty should be issued, and that could easily be sorted either with a damage system or a severe penalty system (stoppage time on the pits or anything of the sorts).

Anyway, I agree with your first points, if they were going to implement the damage system, they could have done it much better than they did or at least make it more accessible for more serious drivers.

i reckon they decided to have LV 40 full  damage implementation so people would have for all intents finished the game before it had full effect and the damage combined with the sloppy  AI wouldn't affect the driving , the more i play GT games the more i become convinced they are all about collecting  cars and then taking them for a drive and not really about full on racing , in GT5 on expert you have championships with 2 separate races gimme a break plus the categories should have been tighter.

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

Yes, it takes a long time for 100%. But this is NOT a bad thing. You don't need to have all cars to have fun.
