Gilgamesh. You have my respect.

People go around calling us haters but they just, for some reason, can't see that this a horrible game. And defend it as if it was the second coming of Jesus.

Honestly, if there's one thing FFXIII taught me, it's that it helps me know who here on VGC has decent taste in games.

It's not even in my nature to hate on games, but this game left me so  bitter and disappointed (and trust me I'm the biggest FF there is)

darth =/= everyone and you do the same with GT5

you hate on lots of games. Particularly awesome ones like ninja gaiden. I understand you FFXIII hate but christ!

lolz everyones the biggest ff fan there is

what about GT5?

I never played NG ... when did I hate on it? I feel you are confusing me with someone else.

Listen. If there's one thing I hate it's someone who falsely accuses me of something. So link me to whatever the hell you're talking about so i can clear up your misunderstanding or STFU. I don't appreciate this.

If you're talking about Flower, That's a running joke between me badgenome and rainbird.

okay. I'm not gonna search through 550 posts  I withdraw my comment from before ;)

Gran Pulse was short?  It took me around 20 hours to get to Gran Pulse.  Actually, it took me around twenty hours to get to the giant open area in Gran Pulse.  I then spent another twenty hours screwing around in that area alone.

Overall, I thought it was a fun romp. The story was terrible, and the characters were ruined by their stupid decisions and actions, but the battle system was absolutely awesome.   Plus the game looked so pretty.

It's really quite a divisive game. I thought the game was poor in terms of writing, character and pacing but I really, really enjoyed the battle system; though, I thought it took far too long to allow the player the freedom to actually enjoy it. The storytelling, while nothing special or even particularly good, was engaging enough to keep me going. Perhaps engaging is the wrong word- serviceable seems better suited.

Definitely not among my favourites overall, but in terms of battle systems - once they actually allow the freedom to enjoy- is perhaps my favourite in the series. For that reason alone, I'd place it above the worst in the series (III and even VIII).

I completely agree. The story is forgettable and the characters are derivative, but the battle system is incredibly fun once you level up to the point where you can invest in all the different classes. The main problem is you only reach this point once you finish the game, so people will only experience the fully developed battle system if they play a significant amount after beating the main story. I honestly think the game would have received a much more favorable reception if the combat system was fully developed earlier on in the game. Just as an example, the sentinel class is essential to many of the later battles and actually makes the battles much more interactive, but this is a secondary class to many of the characters, so most people will not invest heavily in it at the beginning of the game considering the low returns(attributes) for higher costs(experience).

People say the game is linear like it's a bad thing. It really isn't.

Btw, FFX was just as linear.

FFX was just as linear. The difference is X had a great story, engaging protagonists, and villians that were both interesting and meanacing...FXIII boring protagonists, villians that could have fleshed out the story, but died 3 seconds after they were introduced. The story was rushed and if it had been as well written as 4,6,7,9,10 then I wouldn't have cared about the linearity.

I think the Japanese audience felt somewhat the same way (not saying that 1.8-1.9 million sales is bad) but its because thats all it sold compared to past FF games and i think its also the lowest-selling FF game over there (correct me if im wrong).

it's the lowest selling there since final fantasy 4.

FF's been going on a downward trend sales wise in japan there since 7 though. With the exception of 10 (my favorite XD)

someone could argue quality, some could argue they just don't like FF as much, or argue both.

I argue, idc

woah man FFX is also my favorite. =D I LOVE that game. Seriously i spent like 20 hrs on blitzball alone lol and i just loved the story and the characters. Ive also been hoping (although highly unlikely) for an HD classic remake for FFX. Although if SE were to do this they would probably include FFX, X-2 and XII.
