Pachter: Epic Mickey will "ultimately come to PS3"

Analyst suggests a port could make its way to Playstation Network.

Popular industry analyst Michael Pachter has said that he believes Disney Epic Mickey will indeed be release on Playstation 3 as a prime release for Playstation Move.

Speaking on the matter during his weekly Gametrailers show 'Pach-Attack!', Pachter says Epic Mickey will inevitably be bound for Sony's motion controller although a port would not be easy.

"I'm sure Sony is talking to them right now, the problem is upscaling Epic Mickey because it's not made in 1080p, it's made for the Wii so I'm not sure they can go ahead and port the game," said the Wedbush analyst. "I think a lot of the gameplay mechanics would work but they're going to have to build it from the ground up to make it work on PS3."

Pachter added that should developer Junction Point Studios choose to port the current version of Warren Spector's latest game, they may choose to do so by releasing it as a cheaper downloadable title:

"It will ultimately come there. Maybe they'll do it as a Playstation Network game for a lot less money but they'll have to wait a few years until the Wii version runs its course to get away with lower graphics."

His ignorance in game development is astounding.

It is quite likely. Hell they may even release it as a $20 title on PSN in another 6 to 12 months.

Tease.

What's the problem with Epic Mickey Wii exclusive? In America FW will be over 200k and maybe even 300k, in EMEEA it'll sell well long term and even if it has average sales, will reach 1m WW just during the holidays. So why should they make a port? I know money is money but...I don't think the probability of a PS3 Epic Mickey has increased in the past months.

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

I think this would be a perfect fit for the PS3 and Move.  Especially since they could revaamp the graphics and overall look of the game to look more like the early concept art for the game.  Hope this happens.

lol, what makes you think they'll make this game some cheap PSN title knowing what they're holding it up as? Laughable.

Because its low distribution costs with relatively high margins on the dollars earnt. Also the game would be 6 to 12 months older by then and the revenue from the Wii will probably have been spent.

For the same reason everything under the sun has been going multiplat this gen.  I'd argue the only reason the Wii received a significant number of exclusives in the first place is because of its unique control scheme, which is now a relative non-factor thanks to Move.

I'm not saying it's going to happen, but I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if it did happen.

I wouldn't be surprised if it happened as well, but I seriously doubt it would be as a lower cost PSN title. Disney won't make the game that is supposed to bring Mickey back into the forefront as a merchandisable hero a low cost PSN title.

Currently Playing: Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked, Professor Layton and the Curious Village

Anticipating: Xenoblade, The Last Story, Mario Kart 7, Rayman Origins, Zelda SS, Crush3D, Tales of the Abyss 3DS, MGS:Snake Eater 3DS, RE:Revelations, Time Travellers, Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney, Luigi's Mansion 2, MH TriG, DQ Monsters, Heroes of Ruin

Epic Mickey needs to sell a lot around it's release. Warren mentioned on the 1UP podcast recently  that Disney has put heaps of money into the game and they have a lot riding on it being a pretty big success. Unless it stays up in price for a while and has great legs, then I doubt a 200k opening would suffice. I also don't think it'd do that well on PSN and Disney Interactive seem to be pulling away from the console gaming anyway, I doubt the effort in remaking it would be worth it.

If anyone's interested, the 1UP interview I mentioned is the 5/11/2010 episode.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

I am surprised that the game hasn't been announced for PS3 yet, and the best model for it would be to change the resolution to 1080p, add 3D, add trophies, convert the control to Move controls, brand it a Move only title and sell it for $40.

Also in case anyone is wondering the above process shouldn't take long, your looking at 8-12 weeks development to do the above just like SONY's classics HD (god of war collection and Sly collection).
