Forums - Sony - Why are you (and others) Playstation fans? Question about franchises

Actually now that I have read the whole thread I think there really is no good reason to be loyal to Playstation any more than any other brand. Obviously there are people out there whom are a little bit crazy and aren't on any medication who are fans of strange things. I knew of a woman who wanted to marry the Eiffel Tower so don't feel bad about your console brand fetishes. I used to be crazy like that but I took my medicine and now I can see clearly. Obviously the reason why people are Playstation fans is that they aren't on their medication!

My suggestion, go to your doctors before your next visit to the video game shop if you call yourself a Playstation fan. You're probably suffering from an undiagnosed mental illness.

I always wondered about Sony fans, do they just love the Playstation products, or do they love Sony everything? Like, do they also own Sony Bravias, Sony movies, Vaios, Cameras, Blu Ray Players, Walkmans, etc? I'm sure it varies from person to person but I wonder what the general consensus  is.

I think it varies. Sony is generally a well known and relatively trusted brand (almost to the point of being re-assuringly expensive, at least in the past). However, looking through my list of electronics, the only things I currently own that are made by Sony are all Playstation based. Before that my parents had an old CRT Sony TV (which still works).

I don't think it carries over much now.  If the Sony name were all that, I believe the PSP would of done better.  Even with Microsoft there isn't as much carryover either.  With Nintendo, it seems to be an exception.  Because of this, I ended up saying "Playstation fan" in the subject header, as opposed to "Sony fan".

@Metalicube: I buy Sony products whenever I can afford, but I'm not loyal to the brand as when I have a better offer with similar quality I'll buy the other brand, I have a 42"Plasma Viera in my Bedroom and a Samsung Bluray so i don't abuse my PS3 lens (and can watch region 4 dvds)... but if I could I would buy just Sony products because i believe in their quality control.... Our projection TV is almost 10 years old and still kicking prefectly... the CRT is about 15 years without a fault up to today...

I don't think there is one.

Its not that Nintendo is an exception, they focus on a larger audience and make lucrative business decisions. If they stop doing that, the Nintendo name by itself will not help more than the Microsoft or Sony name, maybe less.
