Atari and Sony plan to release a follow-up to last year's million-selling Ghostbusters: The Videogame in the spring of next year, according to a new report.

Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime is a PC, PlayStation Network and Xbox Live downloadable game in which players assume the role of the rookie from Terminal Reality's effort, the USA Today reports.

It's in development at Chilean studio Wanako, whose last game was arcade top-down shooter Assault Heroes 2 for Xbox Live Arcade.

Sanctum of Slime is a four-player adventure game playable locally or online. Gigantic bosses are promised, and, of course, proton packs. First screens are below.

None of the actors who appeared in the films feature, so you won't hear the voice talents of the likes of Bill Murray and Dan Ackroyd, but you will be able to drive the Ecto-3. Nee nar!

Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime is due to be released 2011 on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. Got a news tip? Email news@eurogamer.net.

Yup, as far as I know we don't have anything to do with it (or at least I have nothing to do with it), but I'm also generally pretty oblivious to everything going on around here that isn't in Star Wars land. ^^

Reminds me of Diablo 2, and that's not really a compliment =)

Tell us about the SW Kinect game you're working on or I shall use my stealth admin powers to perma ban your ass.

Ghostbusters: Sanctum Of Slime Trades Character For Action

Atari has released the first trailer and new screens for Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime, the downloadable follow-up to last year's Ghostbusters: The Video Game. Can four nameless rookies bust ghosts as well as the originals?

Developed by Behavior Studios for Xbox Live Arcade, the PlayStation Network, and PC, Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime pits up to four players against a new series of haunted environments, taking out ghosts both on foot and out the windows of a speeding Ecto-1. It doesn't look half bad for a downloadable title, but fast-paced action doesn't seem like much of a substitute for the banter between Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, and Ernie Hudson. It was the interaction of these four that made the movies for me, and kept me from tossing last year's offering out the window.

Without them I fear all is lost. We'll find out if my fears are unfounded next spring.
