Forums - Microsoft - A solution to hardcore games on Kinect???

I think it goes against the entire philosophy behind Kinect. Nintendo with the Wii changed how the game is played. Microsoft with Kinect is attempting to do the same, yet is taking it to the next level by making the player's body the controller.

If anything what needs to fine tuned is reducing the lag and allowing for fully three dimensional movement so that someone like me could play the latest Assassin's Creed with Kinect.

Funny... my undergrad project is actually developing a glove that does this kind of stuff... with pressure sensors and an accelerometer. I also know peeps that work at MS.... Cha-ching!

Well our prototype is costing us around $200 to develop... but that includes extra parts in case of failure as well as a lot of test equipment.

The final product will probably only be worth $60 and that price is reduced drastically if parts are ordered in bulk (10E3 or greater) and the cost to manufacture would easily go down to $20-25 from my research. Bundling in a set of mini games and putting it out there for $40 would be entirely doable I think.


see there you go, put it in with the game and sell it for 50-60. or if  it is a involved hardcore game you could get away with 70.

I think you need kinect and a Nunchuk like controller for hardcore games. The glove just adds precision which could be achieved by next gen kinect too (using better cameras and onboard chip)

If you put sensors on the gloves, you need to transfer their data (wireless) to the 360, like a standard controller. Such a glove would easily be much more expensive than Wii Remote/PS Move.

And simply putting lights on the glove would not really help much and would make Kinect look even more like a copy of the EyeToy/PS Move concept.

And a glove would only solve some of Kinects disadvantages, and it would be an optional accessory for an optional accessory, so few people would probably buy it and few developers would probably be willing to support it.

A simple single-handed controller would be a much better option to overcome Kinect's disadvantages, but even that is probably not going to happen.

You could program the game around the gloves and who said it had to be for all games. Look a guitar hero. I'm sure kinect can detect the gloves if they have lights or something to program around.

I don't think you need nunchuk but I do believe the next xbox will be updated for it.

yea I also think in the future the tech will be so precise that they could make your thumbs or something act as the analog.
