Forums - Sales - Black Ops xbox360 has already outsold halo reach

I think Black Ops surprised many, only a few said it would outsell halo (damn you BRH-3 you were right )

Oh well both are excellent games.

Microsoft honestly believes that Halo: Reach will outsell Call of Duty: Black Ops this autumn.

"It's going to be a really good fight and yes I do [believe it]," Stephen McGill, Xbox UK boss, told Eurogamer at a Halo: Reach celebrity launch event last night. "We have huge expectations."

maybe they were talking bout the PS3 sku?

either way that will pass it soon

it wont.

If anyone honestly thought that Reach would outsell Black Ops on X360 they were either

a) mad

b) doing some PR bs

On 360, Reach stands no chance but it'll be interesting to see whether the PS3 version will outsell Reach, all comes down to legs to be honest, and having played Black Ops I can clearly see that is considerably harder and more balanced than the MW2, which was usually favoured for it's easiness and overpowered weapons/killstreaks/perks/set ups etc.

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

By now... Black OPs PS3 has outsold every PS3 exclusive by some distance.  It outsold all but one in its first two weeks!!

lol.

Now, to make this thread even worse: Mario Kart Wii and Wii Fit for example already have higher sales than any 360 or PS3 game will ever reach!

Both platforms failed!!! lolololol j/k

OT:
Well, CoD was already a bigger franchise with MW2, so this is not really that surprising. But it doesn't really matter, both franchises sell amazingly well, and Reach being outsold by Black Ops doesn't make its' sales less impressive.

I agree with libellule. I mentioned this in another thread even, COD simply is the bigger franchise now. Back when it was first announced most people seemed to think that Black Ops' sales would suffer because it was made by Treyarch, but that obviously isn't the case. I mean the series has even found a pretty respectable niche for itself in Japan even. At this point I don't think it matters who the developer is, it would still sell gangbusters. And although the reasoning was understandable most people also thought Reach's sales would grow compared to H3 because of the dramatically larger install base.

True, but I would say 99.9% of people that bought Black Ops (pretty much the entire generation population.. i.e. non-fan-boys) have no idea who Treyarch and Infinity Ward are.  Ask a random person in line at Walmart buying a black ops game and that person would have no idea that different people put out COD games every other year.

no, you aren't giving the consumer enough credit here.  I work at best buy and have had many conversations with people about black ops, I'd say maybe 50 to 60% of people don't know who the developers are, but it seems like almost half of them do.

I was playing with the Sony crowd who came here to play with the 360 crowd...

It does raise a pertinent question about Sony's inability to produce a big seller exclusive of their own though.

Diverse demographic doesnt cut it any more... GTA, COD manage it, why cant Sony?

Well, besides GT Sony never really had a big selling franchise. The reason is somehow a little mystery to me.
Sony isn't really good at advertising their stuff, they weren't even in the PS1/2 days. They don't do much advertising and when they do it normally doesn't have much mass appeal. That's my guess.

But we also have to think a little about the term "big seller". If we look at God of War for example, it could very well being considered as a big seller because it is the highest selling Hack&Slash game on the market, and GoW3 will very likely sell more than the first one.

In the end Sony's own games are far away from selling bad, their sales are actually very good, but they are not "CoD/Halo - huge" either.

You also have to take into account how many PS3 Exclusives there are.  Think of it this way, on 360 if a shooter fan wants a game, he either gets COD, Gears, Halo, or maybe ME2 most likely.  On PS3 there is COD, Resistance, Killzone, MAG, MGS4, Uncharted, SOCOM, inFamous (It is a shooter), and then there are more non-shooter exclusives too.

I'm not saying Halo doesn't put up impressive sales, but PS3 users flat out have more to choose from.  No one should be surprised that COD sells better on 360 either considering the massive bias towards 360 activision has been payed to have.

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.
