Forums - General - The Last Airbender Review

So yesterday I got bored before work and decided to watch the Last Airbender. I waited till the DVD/BLURAY release because it got terrible reviews but i figured at the least that it would be visually fun to watch.

Let me first start off saying that by no means was it anywhere close to being as bad as the reviews were.

So the bad:

The acting for the main character wasnt that great, he is a young kid with obviously not much experience. But he looked and fit the part as much as i can tell. I have never actually watched the TV show but i can see why they chose him. The plot wasnt great but i have seen worse. I know that they basically crammed an entire season of cartoons into this one movie, so naturally the plot has lost a little.

The Good:

The visuals were great, which i love to watch in high def on my TV, so that was a definite plus. Also they definitely left the movie open for sequels which is good and means they plan on creating some to follow the show. Other than that i am not a movie critic so i dont write really long reviews.

What did you all think?

I never seen the anime/cartoon series so I can't comment as to how the story lined up. However I thought the overall movie was decent. There were times when I found certain characters to be kind of out of place. The visuals were pretty cool though. I say 8/10 by my standards.

I also have never watched the cartoon but I thought that the movie was very enjoyable.

I'd give it a very decent 7/10.

Interesting reactions here so far, that, if you have never seen the show before, this comes off as an above-average mystic quasi-martial-arts film with good special effects

Most fans of the show i've spoken to that actually watched the movie (i didn't) thought it was tripe.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

My mother actually really loves this movie. She started watching the cartoon/anime show because of it.

I have never seen the show either, but I enjoyed the movie.  Hopefully they make a sequel.

I think the movie sucked. It was too packed in and after watching the series i felt it was fake and unbelievable.

I watched the cartoon series 3 times. I liked the movie. I give it a modest 7 out of 10.

It wasn't as bad as everyone said. People just like to hate on M. Night.

Was a HUGE fan of the tv series. Was looking forward to... watched... oh god

I'd give it the same score I would give FF13. But unfortunately, numbers don't go that low...

I saw the entire series, but not the movie. You can't cram an entire season in a single movie, and certainly not with the current director - you know who. So i didn't bother.

For those who care, a sequel seems to be in the works.
