So if I buy him a US LBP for his PAL PS3, he will need a US PS3 account? Urggghhh

For DLC yeah.

I have two accounts: US and PT.

But you could create a Account other region just for DLC.

Is setting up several accounts a tough thing? Does it need hacking? Or can a 13 year old who is not into modding do it?

Just create a new account in your PS3 and put a address found on google... after this all DLC your get with your US account is shared with your PAL account.

its very easy, you just choose the region when creating a new one and put in an address real or fake doesn't matter as  he can buy things using psn cards

for PS3 Games it is region free but not PS1 Games they are riegion locked regarding DLC Just make a US PSN for DLC for US Versions.

Just create a new account in your PS3 and put a address found on google... after this all DLC your get with your US account is shared with your PAL account.

And Blu-ray/DVD movies are region locked.

I hope you are wrong about the blu ray! Why would they be region locked? Ive seen may imports on amazon UK and last week I ordered this from amazon US:

I will be very pissed off if this movie doesnt play.
