Heck 1 and 2 should also be the disapointments fo the generation. Both games had excessive dev time, huge delays, promissed enormously and failed to deliver on this.

Both are still decent games, but not the master piece that they ought to have been. Heck any talented dev could have made 2-3 great game in that time span...

Good thing there were nice surprises like Uncharted for PS3 owners, otherwise this gen would really have been the end of sony.

Both are wonderful games (FF13 & GT5). You dont know what you are talking about...maybe it was something you saw on the internet

Nice avatar and signature, you really seem like an unbiased person for this subject.

Thank you. They are from a wonderful game which you havent played, though, you have an opinion about it based on something you read on the internet

You really seem to know a lot about this subject Mr Link

@ Hephaetos

IMO Gran Turismo 5 is no Too Human or Alan Wake, it's easy to see where all that love for realistic/completeness car simulation was dedicated to.

I don't see which way your post points sorry.

but yes, GT5 is no TH or AW, the expectations were not the same. This is one of the only franchises that sells tens of millions, it comming out disapointing is a much bigger deal even if the game is still good.

Have you played GT5 (for more than 10 minutes...)? If not I'd advise you to do so and then you can form your own opinion about the game. This is probably my game of the year despite the sub 90's reviews.

but the fact that the game fails to get critical and unanimous acclaim is the very disapointment of this game. THe fact that it failed to deliver was to be expected, but the fact that it disapoints was not. Whether you like the game or not, it won't be on any best game of the year list besides racing/sport when it should have been a weighty contender to game of the year overall.

What has GT5 promised that it hasn't delivered on? We knew before hand that it wouldn't be able to hold 60fps at all times, Yamuchi himself said it.

GT is suposed to be graphical perfection as well as authentic driving. The graphical perfection is far from there (screen tearing, fps drops...) and talks about a patch for a game 5 years in the making is laughable. Had it released in 2008 i'd understand... but there, no it's a failure to deliver.

The delays for this game increased what it had to deliver tremendously because the reason was not "we're late", it was "we're perfecting it" or "we could release it at any time".

SO?????? kinect was taunted as the revolution of motion gaming  with SO MUCH HYPE yet its on that list.

I dare you to say it failed to deliver.

NO FFXIV or Other M.

YOU CAN'T SPELL IGNORANCE WITH...

Pixel Art can be fun.

BTW where's ALAN WAKE?

Long development time, lot of hype yet "failed" to deliver.......thats disappointing right? according to a certain group of fans/fantatics in this thread.

What they wrote about it outlines exactly what's wrong with the review they (And a few other sites, it seems) put up.

"Was it worth the wait? For ardent fans, undoubtedly. For everyone else, however, we really have to wonder if Polyphony Digital understands that it ultimately painted itself into a corner. The expectations placed upon Gran Turismo 5, built off the back of years of waiting, refining, teasing, rethinking, hyping and overselling ultimately took its toll."

They weren't really reviewing the game itself. They were reviewing the game against the expectations they had.

In a way, I suppose it's Sony's/Polyphony's own fault for hyping it up to be the 2nd coming of Jesus, but seriously... Some of these reviews are plain stupid. Even in the IGN review the reviewer stated that it was by far the best racing simulator he had ever played... Yet he still felt the need to give it an 8.5?

AND! I have to complain again. They also listed Pokemon Heart Gold/Soul Silver as a disappointment? WHAT!? I am beginning to lose all faith in IGN.

so what it's just a review site, which = someones opinion. What a gaming site has to agree with you all of the time, for you to like it.

I'm really surprised Other M wasn't on this lis

I kinda agree with FFXIII as number one, it felt more like Mystic Quest Legend II to me

I would have added Bioshock 2 to the list as well

¿¿¿Fable 3 and GT5??? The big dissapointment of the year is IGN.

The thing is, you're wrong. It's not just a review site. It's one of the biggest gaming websites on the Internet for more than just reviews.

And when someones opinion is obviously given in a wrong manner, I can comment on that. Opinions can't really be wrong on stuff like this. Opinions CAN be given in the wrong way though. Like this review is.

Gaming sites don't HAVE to agree with me. I haven't even played the damn game yet. My point it, the reviewer is quite obviously not reviewing the game for what it is. He's reviewing it against the expectations he had for it being the most polished piece of work... Ever. That's why I highlighted that one quote. It's plain stupid.
