Okay so I decided to catch a couple of Axew. Can someone tell me the best one to use, based on stats/abiliy/nature?

1. Level 30

Timid Nature
Rivalry Ablitiy

HP - 76
Att - 52
Def - 47
SP. Att - 25
SP. Def - 35
Speed - 45

(For some reason, attack and speed on this one are highlighted blue and red, respectively)

2, Lvl 31

Hardy Nature
Mold Breaker Ability

HP - 74
Att - 65
Def - 49
Sp. Att - 30
Sp. Def - 29
Speed - 44

... Or should I just catch a few more?

Ok im working on the same pokemon. here's the BEST possible:

Nature: Adamant

Characteristic: proud of it's power

If EV trained right it should have atttack over 400 (Which is amazing)

If your not ev training he is still a good pokemon so I say go for it.

I've only ever had one shiny Pokemon, and that was a Zubat.

Only one for me was a Gulpin. Consider yourself lucky

I have never had a shiny Pokemon before, and I've been playing the Pokemon games for years. I will not count the Red Gyarados of course.

It's pretty easy to realise when you get into a Shiny pokemon fight, especially since Gen II they always give out a visual hint of some sorts and not just a different coloured sprite pokemon

Heck on the most recent gens they even give out a sound cue XD.

Precisely. I've likely encountered around 20,000 wild pokemon over the years, using a 1/15,000 ratio, I should have only encountered one. Toastboy is just ridiculously lucky....

There are no set shiny pokemon besides the Red Gyarados in Gold/Silver, HeartGold/SoulSilver, the Shiny legendary dogs or the shiny pichu needed to get the spiky-eared pichu (these two last cases are only obtained via Wi-Fi event).

Unfortunately, I've already sent all three of mine from Soulsilver over to White, but I can check on Heartgold when I get home if I downloaded any of them.
