Forums - Gaming - Pac-Man Championship Edition DX - is this game for real?

I rarely go on metacritic as I don't think it serves my gaming taste very well... but I was browsing it today and noticed this:

http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-360/pac-man-championship-edition-dx/critic-reviews

Metacritic - 97???

I noticed this game on Xbox live but after like 10 crappy pacman releases, I didn't even download the demo. Anyone play this yet? Is this game the real deal?

As someone who loves classic DLC games more than retail games, I am very intrigued by this score...

yeah I was surprised too when I first heard about this game by accidentally clicking on the IGN review. I thought a perfect 10 would be way too high, but it seems like other sites find it to be similar awesome.

The gameplay looks sick. Can't wait to get it.

This and Super Meat Boy are my most wanted games so far.

Damn...yeah looks awesome. I'll have to get this...

Super meat boy is amazing, you wont be dissapointed.

Also check out space invaders infinity gene on XBL for some current gen upgraded retro arcade goodness.

Yeah the only two games that can rival it for download of the year are:

Shantae: Risky's Revenge at 92.60% on gamerankings at 5 reviews

Super Meat Boy is just at over 90%. So yeah should easily win downloadable title of the year and % wise could be in top five games of this year depending on the rest of the reviews.

It's just that simple.

Looks funs, but too rainbowy (made up the word), guessing its available in the psn for ps3?

Download the demo and try it.  It is based off Pacman CE, rather than the original Pacman.  This means that, what they did, was they pushed Pacman even further in the CE direction.  It is a pure, unadulerated scoring rush, where they take all the stuff that you liked in Pacman, and threw out the difficulty.  In this, the goal is to score as many points as you can, by optimally navigating the maze, rather than just eat all the dots and get to the next level.   The challenge is now just against the clock, to beat your time, or complete goals. In this, you will build up an absurdly long conga line of ghosts that follow you that you then turn the tables on.  It is ghosts overload.  Oh, did I mention some ghosts also carry power pellets with them? Yep, they do, so you can wolf down over 30 ghosts in one single power pellet run and keep the scorefest going.

Anyhow, if you want Pacman in a new direction, try it.  If you want it to be true to the original formula, you may be disappointed.  Is it worth getting 10/10s?  Nope.  But it is worth a download.  I know people are saying they find it really addictive.  I am disappointed it looks like they got rid of the weekly leaderboards.  I wanted to be able to run one of the CADERS Weekly Challenge.

I do consider Pacman CE a true successor to the original Pacman.  I just wish it had a normal mode, rather than timed.
