Forums - Nintendo - Regular multiplayer servers for Black Ops down?

Well, I bought the game a few days ago but was mainly busy playing other games.  Yesterday, I tried to log on WiFi for regular multiplayer and it just sat there on please wait.  I called up a friend and was talking to him about it.  He has the game also; so I asked him if he was able to log on.  He said he was able to play once around the time it came out but he can't connect now either.   However, we were able to play zombie mode online.  It seems like the regular multiplayer servers are down on the Wii...  My only other guess is that they barely have any servers for Wii and you have to wait forever to log onto regular multiplayer because they are full?  Anyone else not able to log onto regular multiplayer for the Wii?

edit: used server in title but it is p2p...  this is connection issue with regular multiplayer mode

From what i understand...the game and servers were being patch to fix networking issues and lag. I know the 360 has an update..as for the wii..i dont know how but maybe you can download a patch as well.

Yea not too sure what is going on.  I played a few zombie games online again today but I still couldn't connect to the regular multiplayer.  I left it trying to connect for 40 plus minutes and still nothing (just the please wait spinning).  I assume they are patching it and just have the servers down for past two days.

It worked fine for me last night and early today. However, I bet if i tried to play right now it would disconnect me over and over and freeze up. I dunno why but it seems in the evening it is almost impossible to play it. I also noticed once I do get a game going if i leave that group of people to go do something else when I come back I have to try a few times before it will let me join in again.

The console versions have actual servers? Didn't know that, I always thought they used p2p for multiplayer.

The guys at GamesRadar found out something really interesting while playing Call of Duty: Black Ops on Wii. Actually, it's a bit more surprising and upsetting than it is interesting.

After a quick look around the interwebs, we found many people who are having the same problem. Connecting over the network in Zombies mode works just fine and lag free. But try to connect to the competitive modes and you'll find yourself staring at the same screen waiting for a connection indefinitely. Activision is supposedly slowly ramping up the amount of people who are allowed to connect to the competitive multiplayer servers due to high demand, but there's no excuse for refusing service to your customers who paid $50 for this game. As of right now, people who buy Black Ops on the Wii can't be sure that they'll be able to play it online until Activision deems it time. You'll want to make sure this problem has been rectified before you lay down any of your hard earned dollars for this product.

Well isn't that nice of Activision? They made an online mode for the game, but didn't think that many people would play. Now that more gamers are trying to go online than they expected, they just throw an error message in the face of some gamers. I don't think 'slowly ramping up' online limits is going to work here. Thanks to Malvin for the heads up!

At least that's a halfway good sign. If true, it means that more people are playing the game online at a faster rate than Activision assumed. Quite a good sign indeed

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

For the record I have never had any connectivity issues. This issue will be resolved for those that are having problems. Patience people....patience. The game is AMAZING.

Yea, sorry I am pretty sure it is just p2p.  I just threw in the server word in from old bad habit.  Apparently according to later posts Activision hasn't deemed me ready for online play yet (just Zombie online mode).  I suppose I will just play the single player and zombie mode till they finally let me connect to regular multiplayer.
