Forums - Sales - Screen Digest still believes the PS3 will take the worldwide lead

Who are these chuckleheads? Is the Wii supposed to magically stop selling, leaving Nintendo no recourse but to pull it from the market?

Seriously, there's something so wrong with this forcast that it's outrageous.  I think we need to question whether someone is on the take for providing this kind of disinformation.

Someone really needs to make the "Wii will stop selling in the middle of 2008" crow eating fiesta thread in anticipation, because that 'argument' is getting tossed around these boards a little too much lately to let people get away with such bold and unsupported statements. For a sales site that has to be one of the worst arguments I've seen here, and yet its clung to so tightly by a lot of people for no real reason at all.

There are actually very few who have that belief, but those who do are very loud about it. There are far more users who believe that the Wii will sell 500 million lifetime, which is an even stranger stance on a sales site.

Thinking that a console can do over half a billion is equally bold and unsupported, but it's okay on Vgchartz, shows just how much people here love Nintendo. I personally love this site, but these insane predictions are getting tedious now.

Sorry but thats not even an argument. There are just as much people who think it won't be hitting 500 mil (like me) that believ it will. I love both sony and nintendo products, but seriously the whole "but it's okay on Vgchartz, shows just how much people here love Nintendo" crap needs to stop. Not saying there isn't a nintendo Bias, but like stated before, its a sales site, if Sony were on top there would be a whole lot more sony biased, thats just the way the cookey crumbles. You can tell the fanboys, from the well balanced rational individuals.

I think I would crap my pants in laughter if there predictions came true :P Man the community on this site would be in absolute uproar XD

Meh it's analyst's I take everything from them with a spoon of salt, people base things off of history far to often, I don't like that they assume since the insane success of the PS1 and 2 that 3 should obviously follow... I mean it's possible, but slightly unlikely at this point in time.

From 0 to KICKASS in .stupid seconds.

WOW they gave a 10% Market share to Xbox in Japan, they must be expecting alot ; P

psn- tokila

add me, the more the merrier.

Who actually said it would stop selling? Look at the stat. They say it will continue to sell extremely well. I mean 80 million is a lot until 2011 and would, for me, be a definite success.

I find it interesting that no one (except Rol) takes posting histories into account.

Therefore, well said Rol.

Oh, and Rol, could you please consult BikerBoy on what he thinks of this prediction? I always value his opinion.

There are maybe 5 users total who believe that the Wii will sell 500 million lifetime. Those 5 users just tend to be extremely vocal, and get mixed in with people saying the Wii will be a huge success. I would say there are an equal number of people who think the PS3 will flip around and crush the opposition when the Wii stops selling because of reason Z. I do have to agree with you though that the outlandish predictions are getting old. I think it is a side effect of becoming a popular gaming site and attracting fanboys who like to scream from the rooftops that their console is the best.

He said that is very unlikely to happen, because Konami is making MGS4 a 360 exclusive and Square-Enix has stopped development on FFXIII for the PS3 and is now moving it over to the Wii, so the PS3 is going to lose two of its biggest exclusives. Also, Take 2 which was in need of money, gladly accepted a deal with Microsoft to make GTAIV a 360 exclusive.

So it seems that Sony has to heavily rely on their 1st/2nd party games just like Nintendo in the past two generations. Nintendo couldn't turn around sales trends even though they had some of the best games exclusively on their consoles, so BikerBoy doubts that that PS3 can catch up to the Wii, even though Square-Enix is still making Kingdom Hearts III a PS3 exclusive.

OMG, KH III PS3 exclusive confirmed!!!!!!!

When all is said and done, the worst the PS3 will do is a very close second to the Wii, with the 360 falling far behind. The PS3 will still sell well over 100 million in its life span though.......just like the PS1 and 2

Here's the thing that cracks me up about all these forcasts and console comparisons. For the past 20 years that I've been a gamer, these are the things that I've noticed:
1) The winner of each console generation so far has typically been the least powerful of the available systems.
2) The winner of each console generation has traditionally been the least expensive system.
3) Exlusivity has played a major part in each console victory, though exlusivity is happenening less and less these days. Soon, for the most part, the only exlusive titles will be first and second party.

Now, Nintendo having the decades of experience in the video game industry, has positioned themselves to take the crown here in a big way. Does that mean it will happen? As the Magic 8 Ball would say, "Signs point to yes". However, this generation (like most) is highly volatile and no one can say for sure what the end result will be. It would appear though, that most of these analysts and supposed experts are ignoring history.

To me, the most interesting battle is that between the Xbox 360 and the PS3. With both focusing on high performance and core gamers, they stand on mostly level ground. Price will end up being the major deciding factor in my opinion, with exclusive titles being the clincher. To that end I expect the Xbox to win by a fair margin, likely less than 10 million units difference world wide. The Wii leading the pack is a forgone conclusion as far as I'm concerned, but by how much I won't hazard a guess at just yet. This will truly be an interesting generation to watch for years to come.

I know you believe you understand what you think I said but I don't think you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.
