This expects a strong uptake in PS3 sales, but is still considerably less optimistic than their previous forecasts for the system. For those who don't remember, Screen Digest made predictions back in February:

Interesting... and kinda silly honestly.

Maybe they figure if they get it wrong noone will pay attention and if they get it right they'll be able to point back, say "I told you so" and gain a bunch of credibility to protect themselves when they get stuff wrong.

I actually remember reading (and laughing at) this article when it was put out.

I think the only thing you can really take from this is that it is taking them a long time to accept reality. Sorry but that graph is insane, the market shares shown for the Wii are quite ridiculous.

It's ok, they're just analysts.

Keep in mind that the graph I showed was their PREVIOUS analysis. Their new analysis shows the PS3 pushing ahead eventually, but not to that dramatic degree (And that old graph is actually for 2010).

Ive learned not to underestimate Nintendo. While I do not understand the appeal of the Wii or the Ds, I do understand that they are super popular. I believe that many of the trends put in place this year will continue throughout the generation. If I was to guess, I believe that the Wii will sell the most units overall but still not have market dominance, meaning 50% + marketshare, but I do expect it to sell at least 100 million units. The Xbox 360 will continue to do very well in America with about 60-70% of its total sales from that area. The PS3 will continue to outpace the Xbox 360 significantly in Japan and about 50% higher than Xbox 360 in Europe. I can see about 100 million for Wii, to 60 million Xbox 360, and 60 million PS3. On a variable scale. Obviously either the Xbox or PS3 will be higher but this is just a guestimation of total sales on a relative scale.

I think they are off by saying PS3 will pass Wii, but I dont think the Wii will have as big of a marketshare that it has now, I think that in 2010 it will be more like: 35% PS3, 40% Wii and 25% X360. I think they are right by saying the PS3 will pass the X360 in late 08-early 09 though. PS2-owners will switch systems eventually and since their franchises (for the most part) will be on PS3, they'll probably go there and I think that will show around late 08 - early 09.

I didnt have a PS2 (yeahyeah, shame on me), I bought a PS3 anyways though. I don't think I would've yet if I'd have a PS2 though since R&C is the only sequel of the big titles to come out yet for PS3, maybe I'm forgetting some games(?). But next year we will see alot of sequels coming out for PS3 that was on the PS2 earlier, and then I would've bought a PS3 for sure, what's the point in playing a gamefranchise when you can't see the ending of it..?
