Forums - Sales - Pachter: Kinect will outsell PS Move by 67%

All I can say about European move sales is that Move isn't selling very well at Amazon UK, Amazon France or Amazon Germany. It is like 180th best selling in UK, 280th in France and like 80th in Germany.

Kinect is easily outselling Move at all three Amazon websites.

Yeah, because they don't have any in stock. They're only distributing expensive third party offerings right now (65€ vs 40€ for a controller and 80€ vs 60€ for the Starter Pack) and at least at amazon.de it's been that way for weeks. (I know that because I'm trying to get a second Move and I can't find one for a reasonable price.)  Sony is failing hard at restocking after the launch shipment.

Of course that doesn't mean that Kinect wouldn't outsell it anyway - Kinect just launched so it's probable - but it makes the comparison rather pointless.

No, they are all very much in stock. Move isn't selling at Amazon because it simply isn't selling. it isn't due to any shortages. Move has never been in shortage for the bundle.

The only thing in shortage is extra controllers but that isn't what new Move customers buy..it is the starter bundle, which are in PLENTY of supply at Amazon UK, Amazon France and Amazon Germany. The extra controllers only sell to people who already own Move (have bought the Move bundle) so sales of those don't matter. The thing we follow is sales of the Move starter bundle since we are trying to track the number of new Move users.

Here are links to show that the Move starter bundles are in stock at all three places:

http://www.amazon.fr/découverte-PlayStation-Manette-camera-disque/dp/B003SE6AYK/ref=pd_ts_vg_41?ie=UTF8&s=videogames

http://www.amazon.co.uk/PlayStation-Move-Starter-Camera-Controller/dp/B003S9WRYW/ref=pd_ts_vg_h__36?ie=UTF8&s=videogames

http://www.amazon.de/PlayStation-Move-Starter-Paket-Motion-Controller-Eye-Camera-Multidemo-Disc/dp/B003V1XGVK/ref=pd_ts_vg_21?ie=UTF8&s=videogames

Sorry, but Move sales just aren't very good.

I looked at your links:

UK: Dispatched from and sold by Gameseek. £59.99 ... Third party and more expensive.

Fr: Habituellement expédié sous 5 à 7 semaines. EUR 54,90 ... Price is good, but 5-7 weeks till it's shipped.

De: Verkauf und Versand durch x-a-m-80. EUR 84,90 ... Third party and way more expensive.

This is exactly what I said in my previous post: only expensive third party offerings.

Some anecdotal evidence: Looking at the retailers in Germany: Everywhere I went there were no starter packs and no Move controllers left, navs were in good supply though - so Move is either selling pretty good or Sony didn't ship enough. (Where I live at least.)

@your comment regarding the single Move controllers:

We have no clue who these are selling to. Yes, many of them probably sell to people like me, who bought the starter pack and want an additional controller, but there were quite a few people who already had a PSeye when move launched - we don't know what kind of adoption-rate there is for those people.

It's just impossible to guesstimate the amount of unique move users there are due to the fact that Sony bundles all of the controllers as "shipped units", and the prediction is a bit bold, 67%? Really?

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

Move Starter Kit in the US is bundled with sports champions, so vgchartz us sports champions numbers represent with good approximation the move user base in the US.  You can apply the same ratio (move starter kit / sony's move shipped units) to other countries I guess.

Sorry for my mistake, you are correct about the Move being sold by third parties in Germany France and UK Amazon. But, Kinect is also being sold in France and Germany for a big markup as well through third parties now and it is still managing to outsell Move handily.

In the UK, Kinect is still selling through Amazon and not a third party so I guess that would explain why Kinect is 12th on the UK list.

Pachoo5, seriously of course Kinect will be higher in charts than Move, Kinect came out about 10 days ago and move was relased in September... its now nearly December... (time flies). So i think you are the only one surprised that a product that is brand new with lots of advertising and pushing to the users wouldnt outsell something that came out months ago. :)

You seem to think that no one buys Move unless its a bundle or the move pack, i like many other users already had an eye cam because of buying it for another game (for me it was EyePet)... so all i needed initially was a single move device. I didnt actually buy much move stuff for about 3 weeks, just because i messed around with the demos. Then i finally purchased Sports Champions. The problem with move, as Ioi? has already stated, which is there are so many different combinations.

well, both pieces of hardware became surprise hits, though 67% is a wide margin. the 360 has the advantage of a slightly larger userbase, the fact that you only have to buy 1 Kinect (as opposed to multiple Moves), and that it's a more unique piece of technology as opposed to the Move which, let's be honest, most people are going to see and say "it's like a Wii-Mote"
