Forums - Sony - Finally taking a look at Metal Gear Solid 4

Curious does anyone know what the true ration between gameplay and cut scenes is in the game?

The last MGS game I really played was MGS 2 and even then I don't think I even finished it once I got past the tanker and started playing as Raiden. Does MGS4 come with a break down of Metal Gear history for newcomers to the world?

What is the multiplayer like? How many can be a match? Etc?

Thanks.

1. There are probably more cut scenes than Gameplay if you play on easy mode and just go straight through....but if you take your time trying to find everything, trying to be stealthy you'll find the amount of gameplay time can be pretty big....it doesn't matter that there's lots of cut scenes since the story is amazing and emotional...you will cry!!!!!!!

2. No MGS4 doesn't give you enough info about the events in past games....I would advise going to wikipedia and reading the story section of MGS1-3....shouldn't take you more than half an hour to do that. The plot is pretty complex..so if you have any questions ask them in this thread. PLEASE READ THE PLOT OF THE LAST GAMES....or MGS4 won't be as amazing to you as it was for many of us!

3. If you don't wanna read the plot of the previous games you can still play them ye know...MGS1 is on PSN...MGS2/3 should be easily available at your local store

4. I never played much on the online bit so I can't give you a proper comment there.

5. Welcome to the best game ever.

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

its probly my fav ps3 game so far, it has alot of cut scenes and also alot of gameplay, online is good aswell but if you are worried about your stats i would say get some practice because there are alot of experts online so you might die alot lol. up to 16 players online

why the long wait, why wait until now to try the game? just curious

PLAYSTATION®3 is the future.....NOW.......B_E_L_I_E_V_E

...How long have you had a ps3 for?

just curious...Don't be surprised if it stop working all of a sudden

I picked up a PS3 last year but I've never really given it a lot of attention. I think I'm done with Xbox 360 games in general. The last one I was waiting for was Fable 3 and if another one comes out I'm there. The next few RPGs I'm looking forward to are on the Wii. I have a total of four PS3 games (two came with the system, a used Tools of Destruction and FF13). Not really a big MGS fan. Just want something that plays well and has decent online but isn't a FPS. MGS seemed like it would fit those requirements.

uncharted 2 enough said, best game on PS3 next to MSG4

anyways i was thinking of getting MSG4 but i have been told about the heap of cut scenes and i have never played any of the past games. i might pick it up but i will read the back story on the game first.

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

You only just got MGS4??? WAT DA FARKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!

Lol jks man

Darth has pretty much summed it up perfectly. However you can download the MGS4 Database from the PSN Store which does give you bios and timeline for the entire MGS series up to MGS4 (Peace Walker isn't included). It's great database with easy to understand stuff if you give time to read them because there's a lot of things for the MGS Universe.

Do download the Database.

Since people like darth say this is the best game ever... I will balance him out.

MGS4 has the most cutscenes out of any metal gear solid. And probably a higher ratio of cutscene to gameplay than any other MGS. But, it is longer than MGS1,2,3 (atleast it was for me... so it's probably just as long gameplay wise). Peacewalker has the most gameplay content in the whole series excluding the substance/diddly do da packages. But is clunkier than MGS4.

However it's still a fantastic game underneath that. So skip them if the cutscenes or story is not your cup of tea (for me it wasn't the cutscenes it was the content in the cutscenes)... (I watched the cutscenes once then played through multiple times without, trying different things.

I'm a huge fan of the MGS series and loved the first two stories... as well as peace walkers and ghost babels. But this games still a blast if you skip the cutscenes because youre not satisfied with them (or maybe you will be). And you should at the very least rent it if at all interested. Even with all my critisiscms it's still probably a top 10 maybe top 15 ps3 game for me.

The multiplayer... I haven't played it in a long while... but It wasn't fun for me. But I don't like most multiplayer.

Pretty sure beating the game in about 5 hours gametime is part of gettin some secret weapon or skin in the game.

When it comes to cutscene/playtime stuff: you should only worry about playtime being low if you're rushing at insane speeds and already pro at the game. The annoying part of the cutscnes (which are skippable) is the fact that they're probably the reason why the game needs to install each "chapter" as you play everytime you start it up. Each install takes about 1-3 mins. They also seem to add a few extra seconds of loading time here n there. Still though, I loved the campaign and this is the first MGS I ever played/owned. I went through it several times to collect and unlock random stuff.

The online definitely isn't very popular at all. It's way different from pretty much every shooter out there (whether its in a good or bad way depends on you). The learning curve is also pretty steep. I have one friend who's actually hooked on it though.....it was funny seeing him on my lvl0 account murdering like crazy. I was sitting there watching him play as people occasionally typed stuff in local how a lvl0-1 was doing all that. Seeing as he barely even plays games anymore, i was also surprised =o

The game has nine hours and ten minutes of cutscenes.

I played it on hard first time and it took me around 24 hours to finish it.

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.
