Tales at least seems to have become a smaller franchise than it once was, at least given that Bandai-Namco won't even localize it anymore :X

I really hope they do...I mean, it is Namco's most desired game in the West (based on votes).

Since this thread seems to have derailed into a "why isn't the 360 selling in Japan" discussion, let me put my take on it that could (but likely won't) shed some light.

There are two likely reasons why the 360 hasn't caught on in Japan.

1) The publishers of the largest 3rd party game franchises in Japan did NOT commit to putting those games the 360.   For example, S-E brought out FFXI while the PS3 was announced as getting multiple FFXIII games.  Those publishers had little faith in the 360, so why would Japanese gamers?

2) Western games, in the minds of Japanese gamers, have always been and still are inferior to Japanese games.  Xbox represents Western games to them, even though there are plenty of Japanese appealing quality titles on the console too.  That stigma remains.

And to those that think things are the same in other countries throughout the world (such as the US) are really displaying an ignorance of the cultural differences that exist throughout the world.  As someone that's lived in the US my whole life, I can confidently say that the 360 isn't big here because we love to 'buy American'.  That mentality is VERY spotty here, as the term has little meaning since so many products sold by American companies are made outside of America.  The success of the NES over the Atari 5200, the PS/Saturn over the Jaguar and the PS2 over the Xbox should make clear that Japanese-made consoles have been beloved over American made ones for decades.  The 360 came out first and has done a great job appealing to gamers and has worked to maintain that advantage.

If anything, US gamers are the LEAST fickle when it comes to console manufacturers.

That could very well be true to some extent, but to flat out say that Microsoft is struggling in Japan because they're an American company and that the Japanese are xenophobic is what's pissing me off, because it's not true. It's not derailing the thread, read the OP and what he said.

PS3 is the best thing going!

Wii is like gods second cousin!

360 has GEARS and not many other games can top that on any system!

i find everything the OP said to be true, but I just started learnning about the war this gen and i've been gaming sence the 3rd gen?

this gamers so called war has gotten out of hand; i'm glad i put down my lance, and for me the war is over?

My point was to help wrap up that debate by clarifying what people hopefully MEAN instead of what they stated.  Japanese aren't xenophobic, but their reaction to western games and consoles can come off as such.

The OP looks like its been edited, but I thought this thread was about how the console wars are supposedly different now than they were before and a request to say something nice about all of the consoles?

has anyone considered that the 360 sucks in Japan because maybe they dont want to buy a console with the highest fail rate of a gaming system ever???  If something does not work why would they want to buy it??? makes sense

Well, I hope that's what they mean, but based on posts I've seen, I can't help but wonder.

And yes, that's the main point of the thread, but the OP did mention something about people not buying a console because it's American made, which is what brought up the discussion about the 360's performance in Japan.

I think it actually has the highest fail rate of any electronics device ever, or at least pushing it.

The PS2 had a pretty high fail rate, but that didn't stop people from buying it.  It isn't the same level of the 360, but it was pretty high.

I don't think most people mind Americans and American stuff so much.  What they do mind is Americans pushing their ideas on the rest of the world (like the Xbox tried to do in Japan with the first console).  And being an American, I do know many Americans have the mindset that they are the people who are normal in the world and that everyone else should do everything like them because they are all wierd.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

@finalevagelion  I dont think that the PS2 had anywhere near the failure rate of 360, so thats why it was allowed to "get away with it" also I could only speak for myself and some people but my first PS2 drive went bad so I wasnt allowed to play ps1 games with it. thats not as bad as having your system just flat out stop working

I had 3 PS2's by the end of last gen. Last one broke(but that was my fault)  so I didn't replace it
