Since this thread seems to have derailed into a "why isn't the 360 selling in Japan" discussion, let me put my take on it that could (but likely won't) shed some light.
There are two likely reasons why the 360 hasn't caught on in Japan.
1) The publishers of the largest 3rd party game franchises in Japan did NOT commit to putting those games the 360. For example, S-E brought out FFXI while the PS3 was announced as getting multiple FFXIII games. Those publishers had little faith in the 360, so why would Japanese gamers?
2) Western games, in the minds of Japanese gamers, have always been and still are inferior to Japanese games. Xbox represents Western games to them, even though there are plenty of Japanese appealing quality titles on the console too. That stigma remains.
And to those that think things are the same in other countries throughout the world (such as the US) are really displaying an ignorance of the cultural differences that exist throughout the world. As someone that's lived in the US my whole life, I can confidently say that the 360 isn't big here because we love to 'buy American'. That mentality is VERY spotty here, as the term has little meaning since so many products sold by American companies are made outside of America. The success of the NES over the Atari 5200, the PS/Saturn over the Jaguar and the PS2 over the Xbox should make clear that Japanese-made consoles have been beloved over American made ones for decades. The 360 came out first and has done a great job appealing to gamers and has worked to maintain that advantage.
If anything, US gamers are the LEAST fickle when it comes to console manufacturers.
