Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Kinect Adventures to be a 20 million seller? (I'm dead serious)

20 games, is that seriously all eyetoy came out with? Kinect will have more than 20 by the end of this month ........

There are already 4 games 70 plus on Kinect, and that was launch day games. Not that I see why that matters, again, really clutching at straws here.

Why that matters? Software doesn't matter?

And nothing is stopping kinect games to score lower or higher on metacritic, reviews are still rolling.

And I don't know what clutching at straws means, but if it is something stupid, don't associate that with me, thanks.

Prov. When you are desperate, you will look for anything that might help you, even if it cannot help you very much

Anyway, yes SW matters, but Kinect being a higher caliber than eyetoy is based on a host of different reasons, least of all Kinect having a library almost on par with eyetoy, within 1 week of launch, compared to eyetoys 4 years.

I personally think it won't happen but that is with the deadline you are giving it.

It might reach 20 million LT but I don't think it will do it in 2 years.

Actually, I'm sure it will reach 20 million LT. But probably not in 2 years.

I think its a lot more likely that I become the Prime Minister of Norway to be honest.

Kinect will be, in stark contrast to my prior belief, a big hit but I can't see any possible way for it to sell 20 million units.

you can't see any possible way?  Are you that short sighted?  I can think of one very obvious way, they bundle it with every xbox, or how about if they drop the price to 50 bucks?  There are lots of possible ways for this to happen, and far from impossible.  The 360 and kinect are going to be around for another 2 to 3 years at least.  Plenty of time to move 20 million units.

They're gonna drop the retail price to six dollars below production cost? Retail also entails vendors profit, transport and storage so MS could end up getting 30-35$ per unit, netting them a solid loss for every unit sold. Giving it away free with every x-box would also net them a similar loss, only bigger since the camera effectively has no retail value. Do you think they're that daft? Come on... The production cost will surely go down in time but by the time they can afford to drop the price to fifty dollars, it won't matter any longer since the next generation will have started and all their focus will be on that (imo).

Besides, seeing the software, I can't imagine why this will keep selling oodles instead of the Wii. Kinect will have a solid holiday and certainly have no problem beating Move, but what about next year and slower months? What possible incentive will they give people for getting a 150$ camera that can only be used for Wii knockoff titles and cuddling animals, on a console designed in essence for a core gamer?

Yeah, I wonder why a company would sell hardware at a loss, Microsoft and Sony certainly have never done that before...  Anyway, my point is that there are ways for the unit to achieve the kind of traction that would get it to 20 million units sold.  Whether or not that happens, who knows.

Also, kinect will have some core games coming out next year, I know of at least 2 survivor horror games coming out for it, which should be pretty sweet.  I think that is a genre that could work really well with kinect.

We can also look at the success of wii fit as something that could be a good indicator.  Kinect is $50 more than wii fit, but it's potential stretches into a lot more than just exercise (not to mention the fact that exercise games using kinect should be a lot more effective).

I'm not saying that it will sell 20 million units, I'm just saying it is too early to say there is no possible way for it to achieve those sales.  We will know more of Kinects potential lifetime sales next holiday season.  As of now, there are lots of possible ways for it to get there.

That's a very charming thing to say. Glad you know it that well.

And being at a higher caliber based on a host of different reasons.

What reasons, can you name them?

All MS need to do is keep advertising it, and drop price to $99 next xmas, those who are making out it's going to be some massive mountain to climb are a) nearly all PS3/Nintendo fans and b) being very shortsighted.

I googled (I knew what it mean't though, must be a British thing)

I don't need to tell you, if you actually think about it the answers are obvious.

Yeah it's a shame to see that Kinect Adventures will be tracked as a seperate software title, cause it shouldn't. You simply can't buy Kinect without getting this game with it, and you can't buy only the game anywhere, wich means it's simply not a seperate software title and so it shouldn't count. It's like counting the demo disc that comes with Move as a software title...

The same must be said for Wii Sports. Of course, that hasn't happened in the 4 years the Wii has been tracked by VGC, so its doubtful Adventures will be any different.

I think that 20 million for Adventures is possible if Microsoft doesn't pack-in a different title. I think that Kinect could sell that much by the end of next year. There are 40 million X360 owners out there now, and I'd imagine that quite a few new 360's will be sold with the Kinect bundle.

In another question: I wonder how much Microsoft makes on a $299 Slim bundle with Kinect....It has to be massive.

The same is said about Wii Sports, pretty much on a daily basis round VGChartz

and yeah, I agree that 20 mill is possible for Kinect motion systems (and thus adventures assuming it remains bundled the whole time) but at this current point, I think it is not overly likely. Kinect doesn't appear to be getting the software support it needs to get to 20 million

I could of said the same thing for the Wii ~4 years ago. We don't know the software that will exist 3, 6, 12 months from now. It may indeed be bad, it may be good. Users may not care and will be happy with a few titles because of the tech.

Nevertheless, I'm willing to bet that Kinect is a hit, and will do well. Maybe I'll be wrong, but it seems like a lot of people want it, and will at least drive the Kinect/Adventures bundle which will get it close to that 20m mark.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Two words for nonsense: NO WAY.

I thought that Frictional's horror games could make good kinect translations, especially Amnesia which has no combat.
