The problem is that he has a general idea what the sell through was... The request for restock probably hit his inbox and if the request was big enough he can do some quick math and come to a conclusion on general sales... a few calls can solidify it... if you are off to much you lose what little credibility you have... not that you have any in the fanboy crowd

The good news is that we will see who's right and who's wrong in time. I'm guessing that it's under tracked but only because things like that happen here sometimes, I don't see it as far fetched to entertain such a notion. A lot of hate toward Greenberg too, wow.

As VGC estimates are actually pretty damn accurate if the "Over" 1 Million is actually sold to consumers...

It was pretty clear that over 1 million was sold to consumers...that are pretty specific language.  M$ raised their estimate to over 5 million by EOY, so evidently, they didn’t ship 1.3 units to stores.  As I posted elsewhere, VGC’s numbers weren’t bad, based on the initial data, but I still think it was slightly more…closer to 600k, because the standalones seemed to be sold out at most online retailers and even brick-n-mortar by Saturday after launch.  The problem was one of perception, as M$ KNEW they had far more sales than 470K units sold, when VGC posted the data.  As for my specific comments, they weren’t at the VGC estimate or the staff, but at all the noise makers ranting about Kinect…dunno, but seems to me that selling 1.3 million units in 10 days of a $149 “peripheral” is freaking outstanding for a 50 year old console.  Looks like that 5 million increase in sales estimate is going to be blown past by Kinect…7 maybe…now wouldn’t THAT be something!

You are right. He sure showed us. Releasing those numbers that are almost spot on accurate compared to the VGC numbers over the same time period. He must be laughing his ass off at all those people who defended a site that was correct.
