Having a comment on twitter is not going to add to or take away hype. People really are thinking about this way too deeply.

From a psychological view point his comments indicate numbers are higher then what has been reported. In this instance what VGC has reported. If he himself expected more that is irelivent as he is commenting on VGC numbers. So he is basically saying the 500k is wrong. The question becomes would a guy who has access to a companies sales data which is obviously far more accurate then here bother to comment on an external sales number if it was lower then reported? Having been an analyst for a good 6 years now i struggle to think of another example where a guy comes out laughing at sales reports when the true figures are actually lower?

Ouch...that's a bit harsh, but that Greenie for ya.  It will be interesting to see what the totals are, but methinks Greenie be the last man standing here...the standalone bundles are sold out in most places I go to in my area, and somehow, I doubt M$ only shipped 300-400K units of them nationwide.  I think M$ is going to release numbers on Friday, for week 1, and it's probably going to have a tagline akin to sold out somewhere in there. 

BTW, on a slam back to Greenie, WTF is he doing twitting from an Android phone, when WP7 launched on Monday...didn't they ALL get issued WP7 phones, like Dell did to their employees?

I'm sure plenty of people sent him messages on twitter asking about the numbers on VGC about Kinect, that's probably why he felt the need to have some kind of response.

MS probably won't make a comment about Kinect numbers until they have data from all of their markets. As of now they only have Americas data, Europe data is barely coming in and next week they'll have Australia and Japan when those launch. That way when they do announce some kind of number it will be really high as Kinect will be available in all markets.
