Forums - Microsoft - How Many Units Do You Think Kinect Sold For Week One?

Well, it beat my expectations, but we'll see by how much. Even one mil was way too optimistic. This thing better have some frackn' good legs if Microsoft wants to get even close to it's 5 mil target goal. Unless it's shipped, I'm having serious doubts about it.

475,000 was only in 3 days, thats going to contribute to friends and family going out in coming weeks to pick one up. I already know two people getting one because they tried mine.

The first set of official VGC numbers will only tell a partial picture, but no point in speculating on "what would have happened" had MS gone with a full week, WW simultaneous Kinect release since that didn't happen.

We'll just have to look at the partial first week NA debut sales (stock of sensors sold out first day at most retail outlets anyway), and then compare those with the second week WW sales. Third week sales should provide an even clearer picture of how sales are tracking, but... numbers will be limited by availability of stock from region to region.

Once again to clarify: numbers (at least on the sensor as long as it continues to sell through) are limited by the amount of stock MS can deliver to retail.

I still believe the 360 hardware sales bump due to Kinect is the most important number to monitor through the holidays.

Sounds like the Wii effect to me-- word of mouth may be strong with this one. My family are very impressed with it, and they are the very definition of "non-gamer", not casual gamer.

Will this translate to more sales? Perhaps. But just as I was incredibly excited for the Wii only to stop playing after a week until the release of Brawl, its too early to say whether it'll have the "only at parties" feel the Wii had in it's beginning too. That doesn't mean anything when it comes to sales, but for the gamers who did get Kinect early like me, I don't want to feel gyped by this. I wonder how many weeks it'll take for me to get bored with the games it has now, though . . .

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

Just curious, do the VGC numbers include bundles or is it just stand alone sales?

i'd say 890k first week.

Both.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Before i saw Lameburgs comments on this site i would of said 600k-700k. But now i think it could be a 1m first week worldwide. Reports in UK seem to think it has done really well. It has been covered on the main news here and seems to be getting positive reports.

Looking back at the old thread from E3 where people said their predictions i said 300k worldwide...What a difference a few months can make hey.

After greenburgs comments you would think it's 1.5 million. He needs to release sales data rather then run the mouth.
