For him to include a "new franchise" the game must have a sequel of some sorts....we can't criticize the list for not having Demon's Souls or Heavy Rain.

good list but why top 7?

why not top 10 or top 5 or top 50?

Sorry - I mean the title of the poster's thread (not the gamesradar article, which I wasn't referencing) says "IPs", not "franchises".

Pretty good list in general.  I've never played Professor Layton so it wouldn't make my list, and Bioshock would probably only be an honorable mention.  Add Portal and Dragon Age and it'd probably be about right...
