it depend where the industry goes next

if PS4is succesfull then no

if wii is succesfull then no

if 720 is succesful then yes

i think it will remain for 2 -3 years then go down

Im sorry but pretty much everything I've played thats exclusive to PS3 is "hollywodized" way more than stuff on 360.

Uncharted 2, God of War 3, Heavy Rain, Killzone 2...all visually focused games which concentrate on the cinematic visual experience over actual playing. Only Uncharted 2 has gameplay to match its visuals and presentation IMO out of thsoe 4 games...

Why do you think 720 would continue this trend more than PS4?

I personally love what the 360 is doing with its XBL Arcade approach and as long as they keep doing that, the true form of a videogame (rather than an interactive movie) will never die.

Yeah I have to agree with this. Although the HD consoles are both pretty similar in their style of games, I find that the 360 tends to lean more to the arcade style of games, more about action and more open than PS3 games, which push the cinematics more. Even the PS3's main non gaming selling point is a movie format. Many of its biggest games like Heavy Rain seem to be more similar to movies than games. 360 has more emphasis on online multiplayer, and the smaller XBLA games, which tend to resemble the more arcadey games of the past. It's no coincidence that I buy more XBLA games than actual retail games. Because these are the types of games that are closer to how gaming should be, and are far more enjoyable to me.

visually focused games are not the discussion

you didn't understand the 'hollywood' part

even before ff games were visual but that is not we are talking about

visuals is not hollywoodization, its about how the the glamorous and COOL and hyped up games become

like putting 50 cent in MW2

again interactive movie and cutscenes is not the topic

i said 720 will continue cause XBOX brand in what brought the whole western culture

the japanese and the core culture bit of diminished this gen as 360 launched earlier and brought out certain types of games and then it became the choice of the industry

720 will continue to promote western culture

PS4 and wii2(if they participate in third party like other) will bring back the core and the glamour will come down a bit

yes PS3 also became a bit hollywood with all the multiplat but that is only because when a type of games are introduced early in that gen, then that becomes the choice and trend of that gen.so PS3 followed the established trend and choice

now the question is that if PS3 was successful, will we have this hollywoodization.PS3 would have set a different trend like in PS2 days

First of all, OP never described what he means by "Holywodization". How do you know your itnerpratation is correct?

Secondly, the "holywoodization" you describe is a far smaller problem than games becoming like interactive movies IMO.

I want to play my games not watch them. I really don't care that 50 cent or PAtrick Stewart appear in games if they are good playing games. However if they are linear and boring to play only so they could be visually structured like a movie (God of war, Lords of Shadow, Heavy Rain, COD, Medal of Honor...to name a few)...I don't think thats a fair trade off at all.

If taht is the future of videogames, I look forward to spending 95% of my time on xbox live and playing casual games...

cause hollywoodization has been discussed alot and what you are talking about is not the topic

we aren't here to discuss whether its small or big .and just because one is bigger, doesn't mean he will question that only

I want to play my games not watch them.

well who cares what you like or not

just because you don't like it,you don't make any argument about your problems

many like them, many do not but don't drag it towards anythiny you prefer

I really don't care that 50 cent or PAtrick Stewart appear in games if they are good playing games.

there your preferability

many do care as this will lead to further changing of the industry

However if they are linear and boring to play only so they could be visually structured like a movie (God of war, Lords of Shadow, Heavy Rain, COD, Medal of Honor...to name a few)...I don't think thats a fair trade off at all.

go ahead thats your choice

i would prefer a mix of all things

Bullshit. All those games he listed, are the direct definition of hollywoodlization. SONY's western studios are just as responsible for this type of game as any other western studio.... dont spin try to spin SONY out of it.

Here is a few articles talking about holywoodization of videogames, which relates to what I'm talking about. You know the inflating budgets, games looking like movies and being cinematic in nature...

SONY isn't out of it

but that point is when a specific genre or style of games choice is laid down at the start of it.the whole gen follows

ninty didn't lay it down and they stil don't as third party isn't their thing

PS brand never really went all western,we have seen what PS1 and PS2 did.

360 when is launched early and was succesfull,it pushed western games which brought in the hollywoodization

you can bring all types of articles in and everything but not prove the point urself

and the inflating budget is not  because of games looking like movies

Activision speding 40m to build MW2 and then spending $160m for acdertising is what is hollywoodization

Naughty Dog making Uncharted 2 FOR JUST $20m isn't hollywoodization

lol...youre completely off the rocker in this thread. You are either playing dumb or have no idea what holywoodization of videogames is.

Holywoodization = games looking, costing and acting like big budget movies (trailers, 1st week openings)

Period.

Has nothign to do with western culture or 50 cent. Sony has pushed this type of gaming as much as  Microsoft this gen if not more...

you don't seem to understand what i said

i agree with games cost and acting like big budget movies and big first week openings

but which game of sony has has big first week openings?

halo is what started it i think so

games cost and advertising budgets is what is pushed  MS and further acitivision

even though PS3 didn't do all this it still has contribute but the point is why

cause when 360 launched early and was succesful, the early succesful console in that generations defines alot of the  generation

and it changed the likes and choices games release and gamers experience games

and hence PS3 also followed

the point i am making is that it wouldn't be the same if PS3 was the early success cause it wouldn't have gone for big openings and advertisng and launch events and what not

i mentioned western culture is cause hollywood and all this glamorous and shiny and blitzy is what happens in the west

Ninty and SONY don't do this, you can see this by their strategies in the last gen and what they have done
