Is Iwata better then Steve Jobs?

Iwata is the bomb 100 75.19%

Hell No , Jobs all the way 33 24.81%

Total:133

Michael Pachter today made some pretty big statements. Along with his standard Wii HD coming. He said that Iwata considered himself Steve Jobs and that Iwata was trying to live up to Jobs standards. But he said Iwata wasn't Steve Jobs and couldn't innovate and revolutionalize the industry.

I thought this was pretty degrading for Iwata, but it got me thinking. Should Iwata be looking up to Steve Jobs and comparing himself to Jobs. Should Iwata try to emulate Jobs. Or should Steve Jobs be looking up to Iwata, should Jobs be trying to be Iwata rather then Iwata trying to be jobs.

What do you think , two of the biggest men in entertainment technology. Both very smart intelligent and heads of two of the most successful companies in electronics. But who should be looking up to who? Who is the ultimate company executive Jobs or Iwata?

Apple's fans are much more hardcore than Sony's. Don't you dare say anything bad of Steve.

Maybe they are but they certainly aren't on this forum.

Anyway I don't think they have much really to do with each other aside from the fact that one is a pure gaming company and the other is only in gaming by accident effectively.

I think Pachter was suggesting they have similiar ways of doing buisness.

He says Iwata wants to always innovate like Steve Jobs and copy Apple's success. As company exec's Iwata and Jobs are no doubt in my mind the two smartest exec's in the world. Both are the heads of two of the most successful companies in the world and now that Jobs and Iwata have both acknowledged each other as competitors I think the comparison's are growing in leaps and bounds.

Also Apple does have a very dedicated and large fanbase but so does Nintendo. I don't think any Nintendo fan should or will feel afraid to speak their minds on VGChartz. Now I'm not saying people should be uncivil were talking about two of the greatest minds on earth. But who should be following and looking up too who?

No he doesn't. He was talking about their product development strategy, I.E. Pachter thinks they are probably doing too much looking for the killer inovations when he thinks they ought to be like Apple and create solid and polished products which iterate on pre-existing concepts or draw concepts together from multiple different places.

Man I rewatched it again and don't follow how you got that. He talks about Iwata comparing himself to Steve Jobs and always having to create a big new product.  Everything he makes has to be revolutionary and take the industry by storm. Garnette Lee talks about how Nintendo should follow Apple's strategy and release a new console consistantly like how Apple release I-Phone , I-Phone 2,3,4G.

Man I'll relisten to it again. But I'm pretty sure Pachter was comparing Iwata to Steve Jobs not saying Iwata should be like Steve Jobs.I'm confused, I tried watching it a third time but for some reason it won't load. I'll get back to you later

Of course Jobs. Just take a look at the stocks from 2002 (Iwata started at nintendo?)

http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?t=my&s=NTDOY.PK&l=on&z=l&q=l&c=AAPL

Nintendo market cap: 4b Apple market cap: 290b.

It is easier to draw comparisons between them. Both started from the bottom, though Jobs actually founded his company, both know the industry they're in from the bottom up

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Not really comparable, Jobs is heading Apple since the beginning, When Iwata has started Nintendo already had both its own qualities and problems. Iwata sure has done a great job in terms of sales, but none of the Nintendo brands are as strong as Apple ones, and in terms of public image Nintendo hasn't yet totally shaked off his Kiddy image and now it has also gained the "casual/gimmick" image in a significant portion of gaming polpulation. Apple on the other hand, has one of the best and stronger image to the general pubilc as a company. That's not to praise Apple or Jobs, I'm not a fan of em' for sure, but It's a matter of fact that company and brand image are also results of the managment labour.

Jobs left apple for quite a while and returned in 1997-2000 (go figure).
