Forums - Microsoft - Kinect overstocked, is it not selling in Canada?

Well it sold to one of the Canadian Football Leagues best receivers (Nik Lewis) and he played it all day it seems on Saturday and it beat him up a bit.

Personally I think it's selling well in Canada, just they did overstock it a bit too uch because I went to Futureshop te other day and they had at least 40-50 Kinects in the Xbox section and  for the hour I was in the store I seen 1 or 2 sold Mind you, they apparently sold around a hundred of them the first day according to an employee.......

So in this one store they sold 100 on the first day and they had 50 left.. 2 of which sold while you were there...

and thats overstocked!?

sounds like a few days, possibly a week or so at most, stock to me.

NO, there were 50 or so last Saturday when I went there, which is a large amount remaining for a weekend I would assume and it was about 2 hours before close.

@TC

You should do another check at the stores around you... The 4 Futureshops closest to me are now all sold out of Kinects and they had them up until yesterday...  I think word is really starting to get around now.

Walmart seems to be back in stock online. Again the number of Kinect on E-bay continues to increase day by day.

Walmart.ca doesn't sell stuff online.  If you mean Walmart in the U.S. then yeah I just noticed that they're now selling them for $199 bundled with a second game.

The general consensus of more casual and non-gamers in my field of reference is deciding to wait. People want to see how it's selling before they jump on it. They want to know that the device has a future and the only way they can tell that is if it is selling well and looks like companies will want to invest in it.

I've shown them articles on sales and commentaries of developers who are committed to bringing at least one game to the device. Doing this has actually sold a few people on the device. I've also had a few people approach me and ask me what it was and what they needed in order to get involved with it. So there is talk out there and a lot of people are curious. Considering its selling pretty well up here in the GTA and surrounding regions, it's only a matter of time before the mainstream media starts providing it with coverage as a hot holiday item and sales REALLY pick up.

It's similar with my experience with the Wii. At first people weren't really sure what it was. They just knew it was not like general gaming and that Nintendo was behind it. Once I provided them with info and answered some questions they started hunting for one.

While I don't doubt they did, I wouldn't trust a futureshop employee - They are commission based, and they are more likely to sell you on something if they tell you that "everyone else" has bought one too, gotta keep up with The Joneses you know..

Best buy are salary I believe, so they don't care if you buy or not (at least this was how it used to be)

Futureshop is ok because it is closer to me, but if I had a FS and a BB same distance away I would always go to BB, FS employees are annoying one day this happened:

FS Employee: Can I help you guys with anything?
Me: No thanks
Friend: No - we are just looking
FS EMployee: If you need anything just ask away I can answer all your questions
Me: Ok thanks
Friend: Sure
FS Employee: I'll be standing just over there if you need anything

Now, both my friend and I were in the computer section and we both probably had more knowledge about PC's and components than this guy ever would have.. I hate pushy salespeople..

Anyhow.. back OT:  I too have noticed a lot of Kinect units available for sale everywhere I have been this past week
