Forums - Nintendo - Weird bug with Goldeneye

So I went and bought Goldeneye today. I load it up and I get to the create data screen.  Zero buttons work except the home button.  I tried multiple controllers, tried plugging in the CC, and turning the system on/off.  Nothing was working and I was getting very pissed off.  I was trying to get a hold of phone support but it was all automated bs.  Anyways, while I was typing my angry response to Activision I was at part where I was saying I tried all controllers.  I then decided to try the GCN controller since I noticed on the box it supported it.  I dig out my GCN Wavebird controller from my drawer and put batteries in.  Low and behold it freaking works...  It seems that if you have Waverbird receivers plugged in then it overrides the Wiimote even if you don't even have the Wavebird on.  What the hell is up with that?  Pretty stupid if you ask me but I am getting over it.  I will try the first level before I have to go to work...  Anyways, just letting you guys know just in case you have Wavebird receiver plugged into GCN controller port #1.

Not really a bug but it is usability problem for those unaware.  You can play Mario Kart and Smash with Wavebird receivers plugged in and it still recognizes the Wiimote as player 1.  I just never ran into a game that did this.  I wasn't being lazy at first considering I had no clue what was going on.  Sure I will unplugged the receiver from port 1 from now on.

Don't be lazy and unplug your GCN controllers. Problem solved.

But... I don't want to get up and walk all the way to my Wii... it's so far...

Well, I think it is stupid that it overrides the Wiimote even if Wavebird isn't on.  I just left the receivers plugged in there from Smash.  You wouldn't think an off Wavebird receiver in first player would make the Wiimote unusable especially if you loaded the game with the Wiimote.

I am mainly just trying to warn people so they don't have to experience what the confusion/anger I was in.

Not really. It allows all these controller options. It tries to automate which your using by which is "plugged in". So if it sees GCN connected (as many are wired and not simply 'turned on') it has to assume you are using the GCN controller.

Some other Wii games do this as well. It's annoying and frankly lazy programming.

How is it lazy? I'd rather have it auto-set to my controller preference vs having to set it each time I play. Considering GCN's are wired and not turned on, the system has to assume that if something is connected, you're going to use it.

Its a choice, force ALL users to select controller preference OR force very small subgroup of lazy people to unplug wavebird controller IF they are not going to use it. I think picking the tiny subset of a subset is the best choice.

I had a bug where *SPOLIERS*

Odd bug i had was in the nightclub level. I couldnt access my phone..my radar had static on it...and i had negative 1 / negative 1 ammo.

I had to reset the level and then it worked fine...not sure what that was about.
