Forums - Sales - intracompany influence for Kinect?

Is Kinect the first example of MS making a gaming decision based on influences from other divisions outside gaming? Sony has a history of making decisions for the playstation brand(for good or bad) to help push other areas of business such as DVD, Blu Ray, the Cell, etc. I know MS has been interested in motion based controls for the computer for a long time. SO is Kinect a result of being heavily influenced by MS's interesting in motion controls for every day computing or do you believe it's just what MS thought would be the best decision to sell games?

Both.

both microsoft bought primesense and the kinect tech and now they bought canita the 3d chip maker that created the eye toy so microsoft owns both now

Both. Facial and voice recognition to use a computer and even have the computer type words by speaking them would be the ultimate in computer security.

they already have that, kinect isn't bring anything new to facial and voice recognition front other than making it more accessible though there home console.

they should also release a box for the xbox that just does Fac tech and voice and sell it for like 50 max and that would be uber popular among xbox owners.

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

Maybe that was their intention at first, but I'm getting the impression they're just trying to break even on the thing now

It's not bringing anything new from a technology stand point. But it's bringing main stream awareness and appeal to the technologies. That's what Sony has used the playstation brand for and it seems like that is what MS is now using Kinect for. And from what I can tell, this is the first example. They haven't really used the XBOX brand to push any other technologies that they were involved with before outside of gaming.

True but not on the scale of Sony as they used PS to push Blu ray technology and now 3D and Sony is makes majority of all Blu ray disks (if not all?) and 3D tv's.

If MS is doing this then i expect some tech hitting window's 7
