Forums - General - Some questions about reinstalling games after OS is reinstalled.

I'm going to reinstall the OS on one of our computers, but usually when I've done it before, it's just a clean slate with programs. I don't usually try to save setting and game saves (unless the games were installed on flash drives and ran from those.

This time I do have a couple games, namely Chuzzle and Bejeweled 2, which I want to save the profiles and scores for me and my family. So which files and folders should I save, and then put back in when everythings reinstalled?

Plus I downloaded Bejeweled 2 from the free October 10 offer. I saved the exe file and the receipt with the registration code. Would I just need to use those again when reinstalling the game, or would I need to buy another copy?

For system clarification, I'm running Windows XP on a desktop.

Well there are a few possible folders where savegames could be stored.

- The main folder itself
- My Documents
- AppData/ (Local or Roaming)

However I just looked up where most of PopCap's savegames are stored and it's in a hidden folder on your main HDD called ProgramData

And simply installing the games and activate them again should do it.

I know the info is from "Program Files". I just need to know what to specifically to copy, and then past after reinstalling the OS and the games.

There is no tried and true system for this. Google each individual program and/or game.

What search terms should I use? I tried that with Chuzzle, and searched with "back up Chuzzle", "backup Chuzzle", and "Chuzzle reinstall", and nothing helpful showed up about preserving saves.

Try "Chuzzle save file location". I queried it and it seemed to pull a few hits.

Well I had to mix which had quotes around them, but I found something. It turned out this help page on PopCap tells you how to do this. I just missed it when I first looked there. Thanks.

BTW, we should keep this thread open for anyone else asking how to do it with other games, so we can help them.
