Forums - Sony - Unreal Tournament III will do better on PS3 than on PC...

Anecdote:

After talking to fellow PC enthusiast and specifically folks who enjoyed UT2k4 (about 10 to 12 people) I can definitely say one thing is for certain. People aren't convinced that enough has changed to warrant a purchase. A lot of guys cited that the end of the semester combined with low cash flow from other games and online time being soaked up in TF2, Halo 3, CoD4, etc...they were having a hard time justifying another purchase that from what they could see was UT2k4 with minor upgrades and fixes.

In short, there is a lot of competition for this game and it seems like most people aren't overly impressed with the upgrades both technically and with gameplay. Everyone I asked (and I wasn't doing this scientifically or anything) about the gameplay modes said they would have liked to see more modes with more options, I personally think there are a lot as it is, but I can understand that a lot of people who have played this game for years are ready for a new fresh take on the game. And to be fair there are some new modes, but the ones I have seen seem mostly like twists on old modes.

I personallly still plan to get it next year some time, but probably not until it drops in price and I have some free time.

This is basically what I've been hearing as well.  I think the game is going to struggle to do well, and I doubt it will make a profit.  Considering Midway's already dire financial situation this could be their final big published game.

There's not enough for me to warrant a purchase. Has nothing to do with it being on PC or PS3...I'll buy the PC version if I ever do...but TF2 satisfies my PC FPS thirst, and I've got plenty other games ahead of UT3 on my list of games to play. I played the demo and wasn't that impressed.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

That's what happens when you try to hype a average as a masterpiece.

That strategy seemed to work fine for halo.

Sony not advertising is simple; UT3's launch is limited in quantity. Why create the hype when theres not very many copies to go around? I expect advertisements to show up in a week or two when copies are properly flooding in. Ill be buying it as soon as it shows up over here (europe).

Im curious, ive never played a ut game but i like playing shooers online, ex. halo cod4, would i like this game or is targeted towards a niche group of people?

It's actually niche among shooters because of its speed. You basically move 2 times as fast in UT games as in the next fastest shooter on the market. It's ZERO STRATEGY bloody fast murder. Basically take everything Gears of War is, and flip it to the opposite. That's UT3.

Pretty sad over seeing you say that, it proves that you don't know what you are talking about. There's alot of strategy in UT, maybe not in the public games (which doesnt have strategy in any game) but in the tournament-play there is. Timing on taking boosters and so on, even though its not the same strategy that you see in alot of other competetive FPS's there's still alot of it there. Find yourself a video of a game from a big PC-tournament and you'll get a diffrent prespective of it for sure.

This is true, UT can be a bloodfest. But most people that are familiar with the PC competitions/ Tournaments (before all this stupid Major League gaming BS) UT has always been about team CTF and it's other modes besides deathmatch in compettive play. There's plently of skill and strategy going around in that game, that's why the UT community has always been very strong with clans being very important.

From what I understand it's simply not all that great of a game. Massive system requirements to play a game with incremental upgrades from UT 2004. Vast majority of review scores are 8s, with only a couple hitting 9, and nothing higher.

Which makes the console versions an even more appealing option. Will Midway survive much longer? Stranglehold (30 million $ to make), UTIII and Blacksite all underselling. Between those 3 games, a lot of money lost.

Kinda hope so.  I know someone who knows someone who works there.

That said.  Blacksite looks god awful... I was shocked it was being advertised and even more shocked now to find out it actually has expectations... let alone high ones.

I just don't like super fast FPSes like UT, Quake 3 & 4. Bastards ruined the multiplayer that I loved from Quake 2 by making Quake 4 like Quake 3.

Which is why I like Halo PC so much, the walking speed is so much lower. Even though the Spartans are supposed to be able to run at like 55 km/h for sustained distances.

Crazzyman says:

"FFXIII will sell over 10 mln. don`t worry."

"FFXIII is ONLY possible on PS3.
it`s not a multiplatform, because the game is NOT possible at THIS quality on any other platform." (Posted on 7/13/08)

"SMG in best case will reach:
1.1. mln. in Japan
2 mln. in Europe
3.9 in Usa
maximaum +200k in every region. =]"

Too little changes here for a $50 purchase (PC version only), maybe when it hits $20 I'll get it.

Nobody is crazy enough to accuse me of being sane.

Just to let you know (since many here are talking w/o having the game) :

1- The game run incredibly well on an average system. On my PC (4,2 Ghz, Geforce 7900, 2 Go), the result just blow up Crysis.

2- There are new things : the Necris vehicles, the stasis field and various stuff that increase the strategic aspect a lot.

3- Ppl that liked the serie on PC won't buy it on PS3 (as someone suggest) because the PS3 version is going to be 20% slower, and when you like UT, you like the speed play and mouse precision.

4- I actually enjoy COD4 multi a lot more and haven't touch UT III in a while.

And that's the problem for UT III : to many good multiplayers games outthere and with loaded servers.
Among the bests, you need to be there first, and UT is arriving last.
