That's what happens when you try to hype a average as a masterpiece.

It's actually niche among shooters because of its speed. You basically move 2 times as fast in UT games as in the next fastest shooter on the market. It's ZERO STRATEGY bloody fast murder. Basically take everything Gears of War is, and flip it to the opposite. That's UT3.

you cant compare console with PC, Shooter is the at its peek on console. while PC users been playing FPS for a long long time with alot of popular franchise. No matter how good they increase the graphic people will get bored of the same gameplay, I think PC already reached its peek and its going down hill from here.
Then on the console side its a different story, FPS is the new hot thing and on its way to the peak.

Thanks for the reply. So just because i like halo doesnt essentially mean id like ut3, seeing as how both r fps's. Ones slower paced while the other is a fast slug fest. Ill wai for reviews but if it averages at 8.5 ill get it.

I would not say zero strategy. Regardless, UT is very well regarded except for Unreal 2 it looks like:
Title | Plat | Company | Reviews | Avg. Vote | Avg Score |
| 1. Unreal Tournament | PC | GT Interactive | 22 | 8.8 | 93.6% |
| 2. Unreal Tournament 2004 | PC | Atari | 54 | 8.8 | 92.7% |
| 3. Unreal | PC | GT Interactive | 25 | 8.1 | 88.8% |
| 4. Unreal Tournament 2003 | PC | Atari | 45 | 8.4 | 88.2% |
| 5. Unreal Tournament | DC | Atari | 23 | 8.1 | 88.1% |
| 6. Unreal Championship 2: The Liandri Conflict | XBOX | Midway | 64 | 8.2 | 86.7% |
| 7. Unreal Tournament 3 | PC | Midway | 15 | 8.6 | 85.9% |
| 8. Unreal Championship | XBOX | Atari | 65 | 8.0 | 82.8% |
| 9. Unreal Tournament | PS2 | Atari | 45 | 6.8 | 76.4% |
| 10. Unreal II: The Awakening | PC | Atari | 47 | 7.3 | 76.4% |
| 11. Unreal Mission Pack: Return to Na Pali | PC | GT Interactive | 14 | 7.2 | 68.9% |
| 12. Unreal II: The Awakening | XBOX | Atari | 32 | 7.0 | 65.1% |
The 2 PS3 scores I see so far are 88 and 90, 1 each listed on gamerankings and metacritic.
It's no faster than Quake 3 from what I remember, but perhaps that's another fast shooter.
I completely forgot about Quake 3. You are correct, it's about the same speed, but Quake 3 is a REALLY fast shooter, just as UT3 is.

Ah, ok. I hadn't played many before I played those 2 on the PC, so my experience was limited mostly to that and Counter-strike, so I couldn't remember exactly.
Running in CoD4 is pretty quick too, though, heh.
Anecdote:
After talking to fellow PC enthusiast and specifically folks who enjoyed UT2k4 (about 10 to 12 people) I can definitely say one thing is for certain. People aren't convinced that enough has changed to warrant a purchase. A lot of guys cited that the end of the semester combined with low cash flow from other games and online time being soaked up in TF2, Halo 3, CoD4, etc...they were having a hard time justifying another purchase that from what they could see was UT2k4 with minor upgrades and fixes.
In short, there is a lot of competition for this game and it seems like most people aren't overly impressed with the upgrades both technically and with gameplay. Everyone I asked (and I wasn't doing this scientifically or anything) about the gameplay modes said they would have liked to see more modes with more options, I personally think there are a lot as it is, but I can understand that a lot of people who have played this game for years are ready for a new fresh take on the game. And to be fair there are some new modes, but the ones I have seen seem mostly like twists on old modes.
I personallly still plan to get it next year some time, but probably not until it drops in price and I have some free time.
